Mark Gurman backed up a number of rumors about the iPhone 14 lineup in his recent "Power On" newsletter.
iPhone 14 Rumored Design
Apple Insider reported that with some allegedly leaked device diagrams in mid-March, the first real look at the "iPhone 14" was nearly identical to the iPhone 13, with the same notch and camera bump.
Gurman, on the other hand, also said that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13's overall design will be retained for another year.
On the Pro models, he said that you can expect the same flat edges and rounded corners, but a new notch that will include a pill-shaped cutout for Face ID and a circular cutout for the camera. However, to accommodate new sensors, there will be larger camera bumps.
When it comes to screens, one of the most notable differences in the iPhone 14 lineup is Apple's shift in screen sizes.

Gurman listed the rumored iPhone 14 lineup, while noting that a non-Pro iPhone line will gain a 6.7-inch screen option for the first time.
- 6.1-inch iPhone 14
- 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max
- 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro
- 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max
iPhone 14 Rumored Features
Meanwhile, Mac Rumors also cited Gurman who detailed how Apple intends to further differentiate its Pro and non-Pro iPhone models.
The new 48-megapixel Wide camera will be limited to the Pro versions, while the ordinary iPhone 14 models will keep the 12-megapixel wide camera that was introduced with the iPhone 13.
On top of that, the report also noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's suggestion that Pro models will feature Apple's new A16 chip while the non-Pro iPhone models are likely to stick to the A15 or a variant of it.
Beyond an attempt to differentiate the Pro models Gurman believes the global chip shortage may have influenced the decision.
The report, citing Gurman, said that Apple is still working on adding satellite connectivity to the iPhone. Apple is rumored to have planned to release the feature with the iPhone 13 models, but it could be available for the iPhone 14 series this year. When cellular coverage is unavailable, the satellite connectivity functions are meant to report emergencies and send brief SMS to emergency contacts.
Satellite firm Globalstar Inc. is alleged to have reached an agreement to buy 17 satellites to enable "continuous satellite services" for a possible unnamed client who had paid hundreds of millions of dollars. According to Gurman, satellite connectivity features for the Apple Watch will be available in 2022 or 2023.
iOS 15.5 Update
iOS 15.5, Apple's next iPhone update, is getting closer to being released. Gurman held that the update is mostly focused on bug repairs and compatibility with several forthcoming Macs, with few new features.
Below are some features in the update:
- The Wallet app now includes options for sending and receiving money below the Apple Cash Card. You had to do that in Messages before.
- Within the Home app, you can now see Wi-Fi signal strength indications for paired HomePods.
