When the Toyota Supra reappeared after a 21-year hiatus, enthusiasts were elated, but many were disappointed by the lack of a manual transmission.
The 2023 GR Supra compensates for this oversight with a new six-speed manual transmission that was developed specifically for the car's turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, which produces 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS) and 367 lb-ft (497 Nm) of torque.
2023 GR Supra Features
Car Buzz noted that Toyota claims that its engineers removed unnecessary components from an existing transmission casing, driveshaft, and gear set. To conserve weight, the brand claims that an "acoustic package" was omitted, albeit the brand does not clarify what that is. A bigger diameter clutch with a reinforced diaphragm spring is housed inside the redesigned trans.
However, the Supra's upgrades don't stop there. Car Scoops said the manual transmission has a shorter final drive ratio to avoid "sluggish take-off and low in-gear acceleration feel," and performance-oriented software optimizes engine torque during clutch engagement and release when upshifting.
Thankfully, you can turn off the software in Sport mode if it isn't to your preference.
Traction control, stability control, and anti-roll systems have all been modified for the manual transmission.
Furthermore, When taking tight turns on an uphill incline, as per Car Buzz, the new Hairpin+ function will relax the traction control a little if the car determines there is adequate grip available.
Basically, that means that you may kick the tail out without worrying about ending up on LiveLeak as long as you're heading uphill and exiting a sufficiently tight curve.
The Supra's stability and anti-roll software has also been updated to help combat snap-oversteer, allowing you to stay off the internet and on the road. Track Mode has been updated to allow you to make greater skids with ease, owing to a new torque profile that is active while Track Mode is enabled.

The 3.0-liter engine's suspension has been retuned, and the shock absorbers have been altered, for "improved roll balance and ride comfort," as well as an active rear differential and a redesigned electronic power steering system.
New A91-MT Edition
Now, let's talk about that limited-edition release. According to Car Buzz, the A91-MT edition, which will be limited to 500 units for the 2023 model year, will include a number of unique features in addition to everything you'd get with a fully equipped Surpa.
The interior features new Cognac tan leather and an Alcantara shift knob. All A91-MT variants feature red "Supra" badging and red strut tower braces on the outside.
Finally, all versions, even the 2.0-liter Supra, come with Toyota's Supra Connect software. This is accompanied with a Safety and Technology Package that includes features such as automatic emergency calls, real-time traffic information, and roadside help.
Pricing for the new manual variant and the A91-MT special edition will be announced later this summer, with cars arriving in dealerships later that year. It's taken a long time, but the automotive community as a whole has succeeded in convincing Toyota to produce a manual transmission Toyota Supra.
