Nokia officially announces the 4.7-inch Lumia 625 smartphone

Nokia has recently launched the Lumia 625, which is now the biggest Windows Phone 8 (WP8) smartphone, sporting a 4.7-inch display.

The Lumia 625 was recently spotted at the Chinese communication regulatory commission (TENAA). The new WP8 smartphone spotted in China strongly resembles another Nokia device that passed through the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) recently with a codename RM-941.

"With our largest smartphone screen to date, the Nokia Lumia 625 is a perfect example of how Nokia is delivering leading smartphone innovation and experiences at every price point," said Jo Harlow, executive vice president, Nokia Smart Devices.

Nokia has already launched a number of WP8 handsets in the smartphone space within a short period of time including the new 41-megapixel Lumia 1020, the Lumia 925 and the Lumia 928. However, all of these handsets belong to the top-end market segment.

The Lumia 625, which succeeds the Lumia 620, is an entry- to mid-level smartphone and Nokia announced that the handset will be available for around 220 Euros (approximately $290). The smartphone will be sold in China, Europe, Asia Pacific, India, Middle East, Africa and Latin America from Q3 2013.

Just like the Lumia 620, the Lumia 625 will be available in five brightly-colored, changeable shells, which include orange, black, white, yellow and green.

The handset sports a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution and a pixel density of just 201 pixels per inch (ppi). A dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.2GHz powers the Lumia 625. The smartphone also includes 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which is further expandable to 64GB using a microSD card.

The Lumia 625 will also include a 2,000 mAh battery, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera. The handset measures 5.24 x 2.84 x 0.36 inches and weighs 5.61 ounces.

Nokia has not confirmed when or if the Lumia 625 will be available in the U.S. The Finnish company launched the Lumia 520 and its T-Mobile version Lumia 521 long after the smartphone was released in other countries. As such, the new Nokia Lumia 625 may take some time to reach U.S. shores.
