Capcom Reveals Street Fighter 6 Release Date and Three New Modes — What Are They?

Street Fighter 6 is now within reach, and it's bringing new stuff to the table.

Capcom recently revealed during Sony's State of Play event that its sixth entry to the Street Fighter franchise would be released in 2023, and it includes three new game modes for players to play, per Engadget.

The game was previously teased in February with a 39-second long video.

Street Fighter 6 New Details

Street Fighter 6 will be featuring fan favorites Ryu and Chun-Li along with Like, a key DLC character from the franchise's latest entry so far, Street Fighter V.

Capcom mentioned that Luke would play a pivotal role in the franchise's sixth game, mentioning that the character would help expand iworld of Streeet Fighter and play a key role in the series' future.

Aside from Luke, the game will also see its character roster expand due to the additions of Kimberly, a fighter that briefly appeared at the end of the game's trailer, and Jamie, who appears to use a variation of a drunken fighting style, per Kotaku.

Street Fighter 6 also has two new game modes to players to try out: World Tour, a mode that acts as an "immersive single-player story" that allows players to travel across the world, searching far and wide for battles. However, it is unclear if this particular mode will serve as the game's story mode.

The other mode is Battle Hub, which is focused on fighting against one character only, per the game's usual mechanics.

Last but not the least is the Fighting Ground game mode, where players can experienced all of the modes found in Street Fighter V but with Street Fighter 6 's highly evolved combat system.

Additionally, Street Fighter 6 will introduce a new mechanic called the Drive System, which Capcom describes as "a new gauge used to perform five distinct techniques to enhance a player's offensive or defensive capabilities." These new techniques include Drive Impact, Drive Parry, Overdrive, Drive Rush, and Drive Reversal, per the game's official website.

The techniques the game's new Drive System introduced seems to perform similarly to Mortal Kombat 11's attack and defense meters.

As previously covered, the game will be foregoing the game's traditional ink brush style in favor of a more relatistic look and gameplay animation through the use of the RE Engine.

The RE Engine, also known as Reach for the Moon Engine, is the same video game engine Capcom uses for the recent Resident Evil games and remakes, Devil May Cry V, and Monster Hunter: Rise.

Lastly, Capcom will be introducing a modernized control type into Street Fighter 6 so players can perform special attacks easier through pressing the button for it along with directional input.

Street Fighter 6 will be available in 2023 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Sbox Series X|S, and PC.
