On Thursday, Netflix released a teaser for "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners," an anime series produced by CD Projekt Red and Japanese animator Studio Trigger.
"Edgerunners" is a standalone, 10-episode series with characters that are not associated with "Cyberpunk 2077." While "Edgerunners" is a standalone story, it will be set in the same universe as the original series, with Night City being featured prominently, as per the report by Game Spot.
The story, which was first announced in 2020, is about a Night City street boy who becomes an outlaw-in other words, a cyberpunk.
PC Gamer reported that the series was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, a co-founder of Studio Trigger and director of "Gurren Lagann," "Kill La Kill," and the upcoming film "Promare."
CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger previously said that the show's score will be composed by Akira Yamaoka, who is a well known composer of the "Silent Hill."
What Does the Teaser Look Like?
Although the teaser is only around a minute long, PC Gamer noted that there's much to see, including a good look at several of the characters, some amazing anime-style images of Cyberpunk 2077's Night City and gun and cyberware actions. As previously mentioned, the game's Night City setting will be extensively incorporated in the series, but that the storyline will be unrelated to the events of the game.
The trailer is fast-paced and vibrant, just like Studio Trigger's previous works. The story is about a street kid attempting to survive in a futuristic city fascinated with bodily modification. In order to survive, he decides to become an edgerunner, according to a separate Game Spot report.
The video showed a captive being released from a safe as part of a deal, but things immediately went wrong. A few mantis blades emerge from a few forearms, a few gang members lose limbs, another's entire skull splats, and the good guys all give each other a thumbs-up. While the clip shown is violent in nature, PC Gamer claimed that it is also surprisingly heartwarming, as dreams are made possible if people can just cooperate.
When Does This Anime Series Come Out?
The series, which is written by Masahiko Otsuka ("Star Wars: Visions 'The Elder'") and Yoshiki Usa ("Gridman Universe"), is not yet available on the streaming platform as of now.
You will have to wait for a couple of months to watch "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" because this Netflix series will be released in September.
