Google TV Profiles finally makes it to Chromecast users, which received the full Android TV skin back in late 2020, bringing in features like the dashboard.
Before Chromecast got Google TV, it did not have the dashboard and user-interface experience like most Smart TVs.
Instead, the Google streaming device, in its early iteration, only allowed its users to cast videos straight from their smartphones. Not to mention that its users have to use their smartphones to do all the navigation.
Google TV on Chromecast
But Google made a massive change before 2020 ended, introducing the Chromecast with Google TV, which somewhat brings the Android TV experience to its users.
As per a news story by The Verge, the Chromecast with Google TV brought features like personalization and smart recommendations. These functions were missing from the older version of Chromecast.
That said, Google TV made the overall viewing experience of Chromecast users a bit more enjoyable, thanks to seeing more content that might suit their liking. And it feels more like a smart TV.
Google TV Profiles: Chromecast with Multiple Users?
While Google goes full-blown on making its Chromecast more personable with smart recommendations, it lacks one intricate feature for households: multiple profiles.
So the whole Google TV software suited folks with the remote all to themselves. If not, the personalized content suggestion would be mixed up with random videos from other users at home.
Was Google too late to realize that multiple profiles support is necessary? Not really.
In fact, the tech giant has previously promised to release support for additional profiles on Google TV. But, The Verge notes that it faced multiple delays and false starts. So, it took several months before the features made it.
But this time, support for more profiles finally arrives on Google TV.
How to Get Google TV Profiles
The new Profiles feature on Google TV is supposed to automatically roll out to its users.
The Verge reports that it is all thanks to server updates, which should be live by now. So, if the support for multiple user profiles is still missing on your Google TV, a mere reboot should apply the changes right away.
Once the new update is there, a welcome screen reads: "Introducing profiles on Google TV."
Chromecast with Multiple Profile Support?
Meanwhile, according to a recent report by Android Police, Google TV users should be getting the new Profiles feature. But it should not be limited to Chromecast users.
However, the news outlet reports that Chromecast users are getting their hands on it first, noting that Smart TVs with Google TV has yet to get support for more profiles.
