Sony Honami teaser image leaked, set for Sept. 4 launch

Sony has already sent out press invites a Sept. 4 event and now a leaked teaser image indicates the highly-anticipated Honami may debut at the event.

Rumors of Sony's upcoming Honami camera phone have been very rampant in the recent weeks but the company remains mum about the handset. The Honami, also dubbed the Xperia i1 Honami, will make its debut as a high-end camera smartphone and may give stiff competition to other smartphones with top-end camera capabilities such as the recently-launched Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Nokia Lumia 1020.

The leaked teaser image of the Sony Honami comes courtesy of Digi-Wo and the image also hints at Sept. 4, which could be the launch date of the handset.

Xperia Blog zoomed into the leaked teaser image and claims that the upcoming smartphone may sport the same power button as the Xperia Z along with rounded edges as found in the Xperia Z Ultra.

"The picture shows a teasing glimpse of the right side of the phone where you can see the power button, flap and volume rocker. This purple-coloured Honami seems to show that the frame will be of a different material - perhaps aluminium much like the Xperia Z Ultra?" reports Xperia Blog.

Sony has already launched a number of top-end smartphones in 2013 and it seems that the Honami will be targeted towards customers who are looking for a smartphone with high-end camera capabilities.

Sony has not confirmed details of the Honami but the leaked specifications of the handset seem impressive enough. The upcoming handset is rumored to have a 5.0-inch 1920 x 1080 Triluminos, OptiContrast, X-Reality Engine, 2000:1 + Contrast Ratio display.

Previously leaked specifications also suggest that the Honami will have the Sony G lens, Cybershot Camera UI, Camera shutter key and interchangeable lenses. The handset is also expected to have Xenon + Dual LED Flash, Mobile BIONZ Image processing and a 1080p Exmor R front-facing camera with 2.2-megapixel sensor.

Sept. 4 is also when the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will make its debut. It remains to be seen if the Sony Honami is able to steal the Galaxy Note 3's thunder.
