Google Nexus 7 manufacturer ASUS has revealed that the device will finally hit the UK shelves on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
After numerous rumors and speculation regarding the tablet's UK launch, the latest information comes straight from the horse's mouth. ASUS officially confirmed the Aug. 28 launch date at a press event in London, where it disclosed both the UK pricing and release date for the tablet.
"Google have announced the UK launch date for their latest tablet, the new Nexus 7, as August 28th. Taiwanese manufacturer Asus built the tablet and announced the release date at an event yesterday in London. The new Nexus 7 should be available to order soon from Google's online store, though when it will be available in shop windows is yet unknown," reports The Independent.
With ASUS confirming the UK launch date, the confusion surrounding the release of the new Nexus 7 in the region, as well as all the speculations, can finally come to an end. Previously, it was rumored that the tablet would launch on dates various such as Sept. 13, Aug. 29. Aug. 28 and Aug. 24.
The new Nexus 7 is expected to go on sale on the Google Play Store as well and it will be available in both the 16GB and 32GB storage variants. The tablet is expected to make its UK debut at midnight on Aug. 28, which basically means that some retail stores may remain open for a longer period than normal to greet eager consumers who want to get their hands on the tablet immediately.
The tablet went on sale in the U.S. on July 30, but consumers in the UK have had to wait longer. Interestingly, even though ASUS has confirmed the Aug. 28 launch for the tablet, several UK retailers such as Currys and PC World still have the delivery date for the device as Sept. 13.
In the UK, the refreshed Nexus 7 will be priced at £199 and £239 for the 16GB and 32GB versions, respectively.
With the launch date of the tablet nearing, consumers in the UK will finally be able to get their hands on the 7-inch tablet from Google sooner rather than later.
