Rivian drivers, be aware: Rivian now has three fast-charging sites ready for use in two states.
The automaker recently announced it opened three fast-charging sites for its Rivian Adventure Network in Colorado and California to create new opportunities for prolonging "sustainable adventure" far from home.
The fast-charging sites Rivian opened are the first of their kind in its Adventure Network.
Rivian Adventure Network Fast-Charging Sites Location And Details
Rivian mentioned in its announcement it has opened three fast-charging sites in Colorado and California, with them being the first of their kind in its nationwide deployment of its Rivian Adventure network.
The fast-charging sites will initially provide 200 kilowatts of power, enough for a Rivian-owning driver, especially those with R1T electric trucks, to add as much as 140 miles of range in 20 minutes.
The first fast-charging station is located in Salida, Colorado, which was opened to the public on June 27. It is equipped with four chargers, including a pull-through charger to accommodate Rivian vehicles towing trailers.
The Salida, Colorado fast-charging site also has "Level 2" Rivian Waypoints chargers, which are available for use by any electric vehicle (EV) through the Rivian smartphone app.
Meanwhile, the second and third Rivian Adventure Network is located in Inyokern and Bishop, California, respectively. However, the Inyokern fast-charging site will open on June 28, while the one in Bishop will be available to the public on June 29.
Interestingly, Rivian placed these fast-charging sites in areas where their environmentally friendly spots are located. The Salida fast-charging site is located near outdoor recreational opportunities while the remaining two are located near places like Yosemite National park, Sequoia National Forest, Mammoth Lakes, and Death Valley National Park.
Trent Warnke, Rivian's Senior Director of Energy and Charging Solutions, mentioned that these fast-charging sites demonstrate how Rivian is enabling drivers to responsibly reach some of the nation's "most breathtaking natural spaces." He also added that Rivian's fast charging rollout is designed to ensure travelers have places to charge along major transportation corridors coast to coast near scenic or off-the-beaten-path destinations.
Rivian also mentioned that its Adventure Network and Waypoints chargers would be using pure renewable energy on an annual basis through the company's engagements with clean energy developers and operators to promote tangible contributions to "a cleaner grid" when EV drivers charge their vehicles.
Rivian's Bigger Plans
Tech Crunch mentioned that the three fast charging sites are the first in the company's goal of opening 3,500 fast chargers at 600 sites across North America.
Rivian was also reported to install more than 10,000 chargers by the end of 2023 to quickly power its EV models with fast chargers installed along highways and provide LEvel 2 chargers at locations next to parks, trailheads, and other "adventurous destinations.
Free Wire Tech stated in its report that a Level 2 charger operates at 208-240V and output anywhere from 3 kilowatts to 19 kilowatts of AC power. This much power would provide EV drivers 18-28 miles of range per hour, allowing them to charge their EV's battery to the brim in eight hours or less.
