iPad users will have to wait a little longer for Apple's iPadOS release sometime this fall.
Apple has confirmed that they are changing up their major operating system rollouts this year, with the iPadOS arriving after iOS 16. This is the first time in a long while that the Cupertino tech giant will not release the public build of the upcoming iPad OS 16 alongside the iOS 16, which is expected to arrive during the iPhone event next month.
Apple told TechCrunch that 2022 is "an especially big year for iPadOS." The Cupertino, California-based company said that they have the "flexibility to deliver iPadOS on its own schedule" and confirmed that the iPadOS 16 will be released after iOS 16, "as version 16.1 in a free software update."
This means that Apple won't be offering iPadOS 16 to users and will go straight to iPadOS 16.1 for the public build. The announcement was made as Apple released the iPadOS 16.1 beta.
What to Look Forward to With iPadOS 16
There's one thing to look forward to when the iPadOS 16 arrives later this year, and that's the Stage Manager. According to Engadget, the Stage Manager is a "multitasking tool" designed for Apple iPads that run on the M1 microchip that enables users to have improved control over their windows, which means that users can resize and overlap them however they want to.
Apple's Stage Manager was not as polished as many had hoped when the first iPadOS 16 beta was released, with the media outlet calling it a "buggy experience that occasionally crashed" the iPad it was being tested on. Changes in the iPadOS 16.1 beta were mostly directed to improving the Stage Manager.

Apple Confirms Previous Reports of iPadOS 16 Delay
The news coming from Apple this week confirms reports from earlier this year that said the iPadOS 16 was arriving in October instead of September, The Verge reported. The main reason for the delay was to allot more time to address problems with the Stage Manager.
The news of the delay comes just a week after Apple announced that it is laying off up to 100 contract recruiters. Forbes reported that Apple is letting go of 100 recruiters due to its decision to freeze hiring following the company's Q2 results. It is also an attempt to cut down on costs.
But Apple isn't the only tech company that's downsizing its workforce in the face of the upcoming release of a new slate of iPhones, iPads, and other Apple products. Companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, Tesla, Oracle, Lyft, Opensea, Substack, and Robinhood, among others, have also announced they will be freezing hiring, rescinding job offers, and cutting back on recruiting efforts to save on costs in the midst of a recession-like economic condition and record-high inflation and soaring interest rates.
For now, iPad users are hopeful that the improvement of Stage Manager in iPadOS 16 will provide a better, more seamless experience similar to that on the desktop. iOS 16 is also expected to arrive in September.
