Netflix is testing game handles in an effort to boost offers for its gaming sector.
Beginning last month, Netflix rolled out and enabled a feature that lets users establish distinctive game handles in a selection of its mobile games, starting with Into The Breach and moving on to Mahjong Solitaire, Bowling Ballers, and Heads Up!
The company also rolled out another feature on their gaming platform that allows players to invite other users to play games with them, as well as a feature that lets users have easy access to their ranking on the scoreboards.
The release of these updates is also seen as the company's way of hinting at the release of further features to improve their gaming division.
Netflix Gaming: Introducing Game Handles
Netflix officially released a new feature called "game handle." A "game handle" is a user's one-of-a-kind public name that may be used exclusively for playing games on Netflix.
This new feature gives users the ability to create their own game handles. According to TechCrunch, Steve Moser was the one who reported the release of game handles on the platform for the very first time.
Netflix started testing game handles in the game Into The Breach on July 19, introducing the feature to further games.
In the Netflix app, the company stated to its users, "Your profile icon and name will not be visible to others playing Netflix Games."
To put it another way, customers have the option of going by a nickname rather than their actual name and identity on Netflix.
Despite the fact that the game handle test has already been implemented, the code within the app shows that Netflix intends to subsequently enable users to see where they are ranked on scoreboards and represent the user across all Netflix Games. According to the code, the handles will be utilized if players engage in competition with other users.
Netflix has acknowledged that it is exploring a variety of gaming features, but they have declined to provide any additional information regarding which features will be made available to users or when this will take place.
Kumiko Hidaka, the company's spokesperson, stated, "We are always looking to improve our members' experience on the service and are exploring different features to enrich the Netflix mobile games experience."
Hidaka added, "We don't have anything else to share at this time."
The Netflix Cloud Gaming
Netflix appears to be planning more for their gaming division. The company seems to be developing a platform where users can participate in gaming by having them compete against one another while also providing access to mobile games.
As reported by 9To5Google, Netflix is getting into a different kind of game streaming known as cloud gaming.
This news comes from the recent disclosure that the company has been employing engineers and product managers with experience in cloud gaming.
It has also been reported to have published job postings online asking for candidates with expertise in the cloud gaming section.
9To5Google stated, "The listings spell out a few different positions, including a listing for a security product manager to deal with gaming challenges, threat vectors, infrastructure, and client requirements."
In addition to that, there is a job opening for a rendering engineer, and the job description states that the candidate will be responsible for supporting Netflix's cloud gaming service.
