Disneyland announced the addition of a Multiverse-themed ride at the D23 Expo.
On Sunday, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced during the Parks and Experiences panel at Disney's D23 Expo that Disneyland's Avengers Campus is adding a new attraction. The highly anticipated Multiverse-themed ride is called "King Thanos."
The announcement of the new addition of "King Thanos" to the Disneyland Avengers Campus came as D23 Expo closed its exciting weekend of events and announcements, Gizmodo reported. The upcoming attraction expands the exciting Marvel-themed park within Disneyland. "King Thanos" is a new concept that will let Disneyland visitors combat villains from anywhere and "any time," following the rules of the Multiverse.
Who is King Thanos?
Disneyland Avengers Campus' latest addition, "King Thanos" sees a Thanos that won against the Avengers in the Multiverse. The new attraction is based on Phases 4 through 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe called "The Multiverse Saga." While Disneyland has not disclosed which system the ride will implement, "King Thanos" will feature several Marvel characters from different times within the Multiverse coming together to defeat Thanos.
Feige confirmed that some of the characters appearing in "King Thanos" have not even appeared within the MCU yet, so that opens up a range of possibilities for the future of the massive movie franchise. "King Thanos" is the third ride in the Disneyland Avengers Campus at Disney's California Adventure.
After adding rides based on "Spider-Man" and "Guardians of the Galaxy," Disney previously announced that it would add a new attraction based on the iconic Wakanda battle, but the idea was scrapped when the Disney Parks chairman Josh D'Amaro and his team found out about The Multiverse Saga. It is safe to assume that the development of "King Thanos" will take time and could be formally unveiled in 2025 when The Multiverse Saga is set to conclude with Marvel's "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty" and "Avengers: Secret Wars."
What Else is New in Disneyland's Avengers Campus
During Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, "Avengers" actor Mark Ruffalo made a special video recorded appearance to announce that a Giant Hulk in an Avengers suit will begin making the rounds at Disneyland's Avengers Campus next week, CNet reported. The Marvel-based theme park was first announced in 2019 and had a target opening date in the summer of 2020, but was moved a year later due to the pandemic.
When the Avengers Campus opened at Disney's California Adventure, it showcased the Spider-Man Web Slingers and Guardians of the Galaxy rides. It also featured a Doctor Strange-themed area and Pym Test Kitchen, a space for food and drinks.
During the D23 Expo, the Disney Parks and Experiences Panel also revealed more details about Splash Mountain's new theme, "Princess and the Frog," as well as the Tron Lightcycle Run at Disney World, which was announced to open in Spring 2023. D'Amaro confirmed that the ride is currently undergoing tests to ensure that it will be "ready for showtime."
