Flickr has been around for almost two decades now. The image and video hosting service also serves as an online community.
Over the past two decades, Flickr has become a popular platform for amateur and professional photographers.
Now, to better serve their users, Flickr has decided to add a new "virtual photography" category.
This new feature will help users "find and categorize images they capture in their favorite video games," as per Engadget.
Flickr Adds New Category to Cater the Needs of its Fastest-Growing Communities
Previously, there are only three content categories in Flicker. It only have photos, illustration and art, and screenshots.
However, the company decided to add another category because the third one cannot cater the needs of "one of its fastest-growing communities."
"By putting your work into one of these categories, you can use filters to limit your search results by interest," said Flickr in a blog post
This means that while conducting site-wide searches, those who are engage in virtual photography will be able to filter using the said category.
This means that virtual photographers will be able to avoid other kind of photos, and look only for entries under virtual photography.
The inclusion of the virtual photography as a category goes to show that it has become quite popular among users of the services.
Game publishers typically upload photos during launch or after release. The new category of Flicker is going to benefit those who are into uploading images captured from their favorite video games.
Likewise, a number of developers have also began to frequently upload photos that are captured from their communities.
One of these developers is Hideo Kojima. Almost every week, Kojima is retweeting Death Stranding photo mode images.
Studios such as CD Projekt Red and Guerrilla Games are also sharing photos.

Flickr Recognizes Virtual Photography as an 'Emerging Art Form'
According to Unlimited Tech, Flickr considered virtual photography ass an "emerging art form." As previously mentioned, the photos in this category typically come from video game.
Virtual photography is sometimes referred to as video game photography. Over the last year, this image category has been getting quite popular.
In the last years, there is a consistent increase in the number of developers that integrate camera-like features into video games.
Now, with the new category, users on Flickr will be able to filter content more accurately. Likewise, users can now choose the best possible category where they will put their images.
Flickr has 112 million registered members as of June 2015. The service has also more than 3.5 million new images uploaded daily.
Users can access the photos and videos in Flickr without having to register an account. However, if you want to upload content to the service, you have to create an account.
Once you register an account in Flickr, you will be able to create a profile page.
There is an available Flickr mobile apps for iOS, and Android in addition to an optimized mobile site.
