The Call of Duty franchise is confirmed to be having another mobile battle royale game in the foreseeable future.
Call of Duty developer Activision has announced during its Call of Duty: Next event that Call of Duty: Warzone will be available for gamers to play on mobile phones sometime in 2023.
The company also announced that pre-registration for the game is now open for gamers interested in getting and playing it on day one.
Call Of Duty Warzone Mobile Details
Activision mentioned in its announcement that the mobile version of Call of Duty: Warzone, which will simply be called Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, would feature a 120-player-battle royale mode that is said to "redefine 'Battle Royale on the go.'"
The game will capitalize on its use of new unified technology to give players mobile-specific events, playlists, content, and "deep control customization options" that will support new and veteran players alike.
Additionally, players can look forward to revisiting their favorite maps while using new and familiar weaponry and operators, though Activision didn't disclose what those new weapons will be.
In fact, players will drop into the Verdansk map on mobile for the first time at Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile's launch. This version of the Verdansk map is the same as the one featured on other platforms. However, players can look forward to a new map called "Al Mazrah" sometime in the future.
Additionally, playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II or Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will let players unlock a new weapon and operator for them to use in-game.
Players can also expect to use aircraft and land-based vehicles to help them reach important landmarks in the game's many maps quickly. These could also be used to protect themselves from enemy fire if need be.
Additionally, Buy Stations will be available on Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, wherein players that have gathered enough in-match cash can buy weapon enhancements such as field upgrades, killstreaks, load-outs, and even revive tokens through them.
Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will also feature contracts that will provide players with rare loot, in-match cash, XP, and weapon XP if completed.
Finally, the game will feature a 1v1 winner-takes-all gunfight in The Gulag against other eliminated players that gives the victor a second chance to win the game at survival when players are eliminated in Verdansk.
Cross Progression And Mobile Optimization
The Verge mentioned in its article that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is specifically built for mobile devices as its gameplay elements are optimized for mobile phones. These include movement, aiming and weapon handling, and even sounds.
The game will also feature mobile-specific events, customized playlists, and exclusive content.
Although the game will feature cross-progression and much of the same content as the original Call of Duty: Warzone, it is not a port of the original game, per Activision's VP of mobile, Chris Plummer's interview with Gamespot.
Plummer clearly stated that the game is not a port and that its optimization and cross-play between iOS and Android devices exclusively sets it apart from the original game, making it a game of its own.
"... we're avoiding the imbalance that would come with cross-play between mobile and PC or mobile and console," Plummer added. "We want to have a level playing field so that it's the best possible experience for all platforms without compromising any of the tuning or the control experience or any platform."
However, in terms of lore and story, it is just the same as the original game for now, though Plummer said that the game will soon have exclusive content that fills the needs of the "mobile play patterns."
How To Pre-Register For The Game
Gamers interested in playing the game on its release date are advised to pre-register for it on the Google Play Store. Meanwhile, those who wish to pre-register on the Apple App Store can stay tuned to the Call of Duty Blog and the game's official social media accounts, such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for updates on how to do so.
