May the Lich King's reign in the hearts of World of Warcraft (WoW) players last forever, or at least in their minds through the last song syndrome.
Blizzard Entertainment has recently partnered with iam8bit to release a special vinyl soundtrack collection that "pays tribute" to the soundtrack featured in the Wrath of the Lich King WoW expansion, per Game Press.
Unfortunately, only a limited number of customers can pre-order the collection, but those interested in acquiring it can do so starting today, per the collection's iam8bit page.
WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Vinyl Soundtrack Collection Details
Blizzard Entertainment and iam8bit mentioned in their joint announcement that they had developed a three-vinyl soundtrack collection that contains music celebrating the soundtrack of the much-beloved WoW expansion.
The collection consists of 31 music pieces from composers such as Russell Brower, Derek Duke, Glenn Stafford, Jason Hayes, and Neal Acree.
According to his IMDb page, Brower is known for his work on many Blizzard games, such as Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void, Diablo III: Wrath, and WoW: Cataclysm. He also composed music for "Batman: The Animated Series" and the "Animaniacs."
Meanwhile, Duke, a member of Blizzard's musical team, was the lead composer and music supervisor for Overwatch, per Venturebeat. He also previously worked on soundtracks for the first Starcraft game and was the soundtrack supervisor for Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, according to a Blizzard blog post.
Stafford is also known for his contribution to almost all of Blizzard's games, with him working on musical scores for the company's games since 1994, per his IMDb page.
Interestingly, his first work can be found on one of Blizzard's first games, BlackThorne.
On the other hand, Hayes is a composer and audio director known for his musical contributions to many of Blizzard's franchises, such as the Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo franchises, per his official website.
Last, but not least, was Acree, who also created scores for many Blizzard-developed games, with his most recent work being WoW: Shadowlands, per Acree's IMDB page.
iam8bit collaborator Ryan Brinkerhoff reportedly designed the album's layout and inner sleeves, which are inspired by the Lich King's Helm of Domination.
Aside from the pieces of vinyl, people who wish to preorder the collection can get the following items:
- An exclusive king-sized Helm of Domination pin
- A collector's box secures three albums pressed on two-tone blue vinyl
- Bonus Ice Blue 7" featuring additional exclusive tracks
- Custom metal Helm of Domination 45 RPM adapter
- High-quality felt slipmat
How To Preorder The Collection
Both companies mentioned that the collection would cost interested customers $199.99 and would only be limited to 1,500 customers.
People that only want the Wrath of the Lich King soundtrack can get a two-disc edition instead through iam8bit and certain retail partners for $41.99.
Both the limited and two-disc collections can be preordered on iam8bit's official website now and will be shipped sometime in the third quarter of 2023.
