‘The Last of Us' Series Gets Its First Exclusive Teaser Trailer — Watch It Here!

The Last of Us Day just became more exciting for fans of the video game series.

HBO has recently released a trailer for the upcoming "The Last of Us" TV series just in time to celebrate the original video game series and the community borne from it, per Naughty Dog.

The popular video game developer chose Sept. 26 to celebrate The Last of Us Day due to it being the same day as the outbreak of the Cordyceps parasite virus in-game, per Looper.

The Last of Us TV Series Trailer Breakdown

HBO posted on the official The Last of US TV Series Twitter page a minute-and-a-half trailer featuring many notable moments from the TV series.

The trailer starts with people painting over a Firefly symbol while being watched by armed military personnel. It then showed Joel alone in a room and his wristwatch, which also follows its in-game counterpart, per Gamespot.

Fans of the game may recall that Joel's wristwatch was his birthday present from his deceased daughter, Sarah, but it was broken during the opening sequence in the game.

What's interesting is that the watch is broken the same way as its in-game counterpart, down to the crack in its mirror.

We then see Boston's leaning building's silhouette thanks to storm-produced lightning and the world's first look of what a moving, living clicker is, as opposed to the one found in the previous trailer HBO released.

You may remember that the previous trailer showed a seemingly dead clicker near the end of the trailer.

For those unaware, a Clicker is a person suffering the third stage of the Cordyceps parasite virus, wherein the infected individual loses the ability to see due to the fungal parasite's growth but gains sensitive hearing to compensate, per The Last of Us wiki.

We then got to see Firefly leader Marlene, who is played by Merle Dandridge, the same actress that portrayed the character in the original 2013 game.

Ellie's best friend, Riley, was also shown in the trailer while the two rode on a carousel.

Afterward, we got to see Bill, played by Nick Offerman, sighting down Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, and glimpses of the initial Cordyceps outbreak on Sept. 26, 2013.

Finally, the trailer featured a jumpscare using a closeup shot of a clicker lunging at the screen.

Engadget mentioned in its article that the trailer was able to capture the game's "terrifying atmosphere," and it shows. There were parts in the trailer that felt like they came from AMC's "The Walking Dead."

Additionally, the publication found that the TV series will also look to the original 2013 game's Left Behind expansion, as evidenced by Riley's appearance in the trailer.

When Will HBO's The Last of US TV Show Air?

HBO's "The Last of Us" TV Show will be available to watch on HBO and HBO Max in early 2023. However, the company has yet to give a definite release for the show.
