Samsung is enhancing users' mobile experience by introducing new features, including the Bixby Text Call virtual assistant with their One UI 5 update.
According to CNET, Samsung is following the steps of the Google Pixel playbook by integrating the ability to answer phone calls by texting, using the Bixby assistant.
Improved Phone Call Experience Takes Priority With Samsung
During the official launch of One UI 5, Samsung launched their new and improved features based on Android 13, including the Bixby Text Call feature.
According to SAM Mobile, this feature helps users enhance and personalize their calling experience through a virtual assistant that allows them to answer calls by typing messages.
This feature powered by Samsung's intelligent assistance converts the text to audio, which users can share directly between callers.
The Bixby Text Call feature allows multitasking by granting callers the ability to access an assistant to transcribe between voice and text on both ends.
This helps users continue conversations without having to talk on the phone, by simply enabling the toggle on the feature by opening Samsung's Select Setting.
However, SAM Mobile writes that it is important to note that texters can only see the conversation, and only the caller will hear the automated Bixby voice.
Sally Jeong, Samsung's Vice President and Head of Research and Development Group for Mobile Experience Business said that Bixby has since evolved, but still needs a lot of training.
CNet reports that the feature will temporarily be available in Korea to start, while the company continues experimenting and expanding into other languages, including English.
Samsung is not the first to incorporate a voice assistant in their systems to improve calls as Google and Apple are also both known to provide the same personalized experience.
Other Features Roll Out With Bixby
According to Business Ghana, Samsung's One UI 5 will have some features that are similar to Apple's iOS with customizations to match the user's lifestyle.
With the software update, Samsung will now allow users to customize lockscreens with options to chafe wallpaper and clock face from a wide range of new selections.
Routine features will also be introduced to Samsung Galaxy phones as they expand to recognize situations to start automations or "modes."
These modes create a filter for distractions for different activities that might interfere with productivity, work, sleep, and exercise, Business Ghana writes.
This feature also allows users to change the placement of notifications, media players, and button shortcuts, which will be backed into the operating system, according to Pocket Now.
Samsung also refined notification displays to be more intuitive and effortless by offering answer and decline buttons through redesigned pop-up call displays.
According to Samsung Newsroom, One UI 5 also lets users drag and drop down widgets to organize and streamline mobile tasks and activities more effectively.
Furthermore, Samsung's new security and privacy dashboard will keep users' devices protected by giving them security warnings about personal information that might be compromised.
These new features are expected to be available for a wider audience by 2023, but for the meantime, more information about the software update is accessible through this link.
