These are the 3 Underrated, 2 Overrated CSGO Maps According to People on Reddit

Counter-Strike has come a long way since it first started as a mod for Half-Life. The fourth game in the series, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, is easily one of most well-known esports games while still enjoying a loyal fanbase of casual gamers.

A big aspect of the CSGO gameplay are the maps. Many have become fan favorites, while others have been not-so-popular that they were eventually just removed. It is no surprise that players have long debated over which maps are considered overrated and which are underrated.

Well, this is what people on a thread in Reddit's r/counterstrike have to say about it.

Overrated CSGO Maps

As you browse the thread on r/counterstrike, two maps easily come across as the frontrunners when it comes to which ones are the most overrated. These are:

Dust II

Otherwise known by its de_dust2 filename, Dust II is the successor of another Counter-Strike map, Dust. It is arguably the most iconic CSGO map there is as many of the Redditors point out in the Reddit thread. However, most of the people who responded to the thread counted it as the most overrated one.

Redditor rmp8k says, "dust2 is iconic, no doubt, but but after 2k+ hrs on this map, it is just all the same." Others have disagreed and said that the map is not overrated at all. Instead, it is just played way too often.

Mirage

The second overrated map according to people on the Reddit thread is none other than Mirage. Added to CSGO in 2013, it was formerly known by another name, Strike.

Redditor FireLordObamaOG agrees that both Dust II and Mirage are overrated, saying that "They're balanced in ways that some other maps aren't but they're the most basic experience you could ever have in CS."

Underrated CSGO Maps

When it comes to which CSGO maps are underrated, the answers of the Redditors are more varied. Here are the three that frequently came up in the responses to the Reddit thread:

Aztec

The first underrated CSGO map on our list is bomb defusal map Aztec. According to Collider, this map was created by Chris Auty and "set in a rainy Central American archeological site and features long-range sight lines that benefit snipers."

The map was removed in 2017 and, although other maps removed alongside it can still be played it other game modes, such is not the case with Aztec.

Cache

One of the CSGO maps that actually began as a custom map, Cache is a bomb defusal map that used to be part of the Active Duty Group. As of writing, it is part of Defusal Group Delta for Casual and Deathmatch. It is also playable part of competitive matchmaking.

Cache was reworked and given a new look in 2019. Some fans, however, seem to miss its old look, such as Redditor Konseq.

Train

A map that has been around since CS 1.6, Train is a bomb defusal map that was added to the Active Duty Group in CSGO. However, according to a report by TalkEsport, Train has already been removed and replaced by another map called Ancient.

Per the report, many professional players and other fans of the game expressed their unhappiness about the removal of the underrated map.
