Sony, Naughty Dog Confirmed To Be Co-Developing a New Project in ‘A Beloved Franchise’

A beloved franchise could soon have a new entry.

A recent job listing from Sony spotted by Video Games Chronicle revealed that a "newly-formed" internal game development team is collaborating with Naughty Dog to co-develop a new project in a popular franchise.

The job listing Sony posted didn't reveal much about the game it is co-developing with Naughty Dog.

Sony - Naughty Dog ProJect Co-Development Details

Sony said in a job listing posted earlier this week that it is looking for a video game intern expected to graduate by Spring 2024 to work for it under its PlayStation Studios Visual Arts Service Group.

The Group, which will be co-developing a project with Naughty Dog, is the same development team that contributed to the remake of The Last of Us Part 1.

However, Sony would later remove its mention of the Group, replacing it with a statement that alluded to them. The company said it is creating a new internal game development team, with the said team being the same one known for its contributions to The Last of Us franchise.

Sony posted another job listing after some time. However, it lacked any mention of the Group. Instead, the job listing simply stated that Sony is looking for an intern to work with them under "a new PlayStation studio based in San Diego, CA."

Interestingly, the company's PS Studios Visual Arts Service Group is based in San Diego, California."

Aside from that, no other changes have been noted, confirming that The Group is still working with Naughty Dog to co-develop a new project for "a beloved francise."

What Game Are They Working On?

It is unknown to what franchise Sony's job listing is referring. However, since Naughty Dog is involved, it is possible that the project the two companies are co-developing may come from Naughty Dog's portfolio of video games, specifically, the Uncharted series.

A Eurogamer report mentioned that both Naughty Dog and Sony's PS Studios Visual Arts Service Group were linked to new projects involving the Uncharted series in a Bloomberg article in 2021. Although these projects never saw the light of day, Naughty Dog posted a job listing of their own to build teams for new titles and "the legacy of Uncharted."

As such, there is a good chance that Sony and Naughty Dog are working on a remake of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, which was released for the PlayStation 3 on November 2007.

For those unaware, Drake's Fortune is the first video game in the Uncharted series. Many Naughty Dog fans, including Game Rant and Metro, believe that the first three games, especially Drake's Fortune, are due for a remake.

However, the game could also be connected to Naughty Dog's 2001 video game series Jak and Daxter. In fact, Ruben Fleischer, the director of the live-action "Uncharted" movie starring Tom Holland, revealed he was adapting Jak and Daxter for a theatrical release, per Game Informer.

As such, it isn't far-fetched to believe that Sony and Naughty Dog to co-develop a game that ties into Fleisher's upcoming movie.
