The rumored upgrade of the Google Pixel mid-range smartphone may not be your usual average smartphone in mind. Its specs, if rumors are correct, are different from the types of mid-range smartphones.
Several hints gathered by Android Central and PhoneArena point to a smartphone that will feature flagship features in terms of body build and hardware. And the camera, too.
Based on several hints, iTech Post lists at least three things you can expect from the upgrade. Here's the list:
Flagship Specs
This rumored massive upgrade might include a ceramic body, the first in Google's mid-priced series. The previous generation Pixel 6a and older siblings had a plastic panel, with the exception of Pixel 5a, which sports aluminum.
The ceramic back panel alone speaks the volume for a budget phone. It is an indication Google is not taking chances with the Pixel 7 performing well in the market.
With this not-your-usual back panel upgrade, it is possible that the company is positioning the next-gen smartphone as a better device than the Pixel 7, which is likely.
Google is known for stripping down the flagship models to come up with its a-series phones. The move is to cater to the budget phone market. To this end, the strategy of the California-based tech company is quite erratic and difficult to predict.
It requires a lot of creativity and lab work to differentiate between its first two a-range models by lacing them with different chipsets.
Camera Similar to the Pixel 6
The spotlight will shine the most on the rumored camera. It is said to be similar to the Pixel 6's, and the Pixel 7a camera will likely ship with Samsung's GN1 sensor. Pixel 6 and Pro have this awesome 50MP camera.
Pixel 7a, according to Android Central, is rumored to come with an IMX787 sensor for telephoto from Sony. For wide-angle shots, the smartphone is likely to have an IMX712 sensor, while its front camera has an IMX712 sensor for selfies.
Wireless Charging
Google is not stopping there. The next-gen device is supposed to change the way cheap Android phones get charged. The evidence is clear that Pixel 7a will sport wireless charging, which is another flagship feature for a mid-range phone.
Expect More Upgrades
The rumors hinted that the massive upgrades of Google's mid-range Pixel 7a - flagship-level body, wireless charging, and camera - is a major departure from every Pixel A-series.
Early this year, 9to5Google was already prying on at least five Google devices that were set to be rolled out from Fall 2022 to the middle of 2023.
Two of these devices, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, were already released early this month. Google has yet to release two devices, Pixel Tablet and Pixel Notepad before the year ends or early next year.
About the Pixel Tablet, the aluminum body will get a nano-ceramic coating to appear like having a ceramic body. The leaker may have confused the Pixel 7a body with that of the Pixel Tablet. But to have a flagship camera on a Pixel Tablet is very un-Google.
