The world of Guerilla Games' Horizon series is one of the most beautiful and memorable landscapes you can't wait to go off and explore. It is based on real-life locations that were given its possible look if it were still standing in a post-apocalyptic 31st century when humanity had regressed to technologically inferior tribalism.
It seems Sony is also of the same mind, and as such, it could be giving fans of the series the opportunity to know more about the world and lore of the Horizon series.
A recent report from a South Korean media company revealed that Sony is collaborating with NCSoft to develop and launch a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game based on the Horizon series.
NCSoft is a South Korean video game developer and publisher which was the publication of games such as the Guild Wars and Lineage series, as well as Fuser and Wildstar, per IGDB.
Horizon Series MMO Development Details
A report from South Korean media company MTN citing a source familiar with both companies said that Sony and NCSoft have "tentatively" partnered up to develop an MMO based on Guerilla Games' Horizon series.
The source said that there is a possibility that the "tentative" partnership will lead to a comprehensive one, which will be better for the Horizon IP NCSoft and Sony are developing.
As a result, NCSoft started hiring people for the task at hand, named "Project H," as was spotted in the company's job advertisements, per IGN.
However, NCSoft's global communications office said that it is "difficult to confirm information about unpublished projects that are currently under dveleopment," or a Google Translate attempt from Video Games Chronicle.
the publication has also asked Sony to comment on the matter, but VGC has yet to receive a response to their inquiry.
The Multiplayer Game We're Waiting For?
Whether this Horizon MMO is the multiplayer game gamers are waiting for remains to be seen. You may recall that MP1st's sources revealed that Guerrilla could be developing a Horizon multiplayer game for the PS5 and PC.
Sony was interested in adding a multiplayer mode for Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, which would have looked similar to Capcom's Monster Hunter games.
Unfortunately, Guerrilla decided to save the idea for a future project for either a third entry to the Horizon series or a standalone online spin-off game.
Interestingly, Guerilla Games was spotted to be hiring people for an online game. One of the positions the company is looking to fill, in particular, is a senior social systems designer position.
The person who would be hired for the role would be responsible for engaging players in social interactions that create friendships and Guild-like groups to explore together.
Another position Guerilla wants to fill in the role of senior game writer, which may or may not be connected to the alleged Horizon online game.
According to the job posting, the newly hired person for the position is expected to have a comprehensive understanding of stories and narrative design that involves missions, quests, and narrative design for open-world RPGs, online games, and MMORPGs.
