1. Pentiment Basic Facts
Released on November 15, 2022, Pentiment is a historical adventure game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios.
You take on the role of Andreas Maler, an artist who suddenly find himself in the middle of murders and scandals. The game is set in Europe, specifically fictional locations called Tassing and Kiersau Abbey. The story, according to the Steam page of Pentiment, spans the course of 25 years.
2. The Art Style is Inspired by the 16th Century
One of the aspects of Pentiment that brings the historical feel to the game is its art style. The art and animation of the game is heavily inspired by the 16th century. Kotaku describes it as "a 2D art style inspired by medieval manuscripts.
3. Your Choices Affect the Outcome of the Game
If you are into games where your actions and choices can change where the story goes, Pentiment is right up your alley. What you choose to do and even you talk to has an effect.
You also get to shape the backstory of Andreas. You can choose between different social and academic backgrounds, which will shape the story and experience as you go through the game.

4. The Game Does Deal with Sensitive Topics
Pentiment does deal with sensitive topics and issues, we want to take this opportunity to give a trigger warning to those who are interested to play the game.
As Kotaku points out in its article, Pentiment deals not only with murder, which is the mystery you do have to unravel when you play, but also sexual assault and mental illness, among others. If these make you uncomfortable, do exercise caution should you wish to try the game out.

As of press time, Pentiment has a little over 500 reviews on Steam. Despite the relatively small number, it is noted on the game's page that these reviews are generally classified as Overwhelmingly Positive. One review written by Steam user Burrrrrrrrrrandon even calls the game a "masterpiece."
