'Wednesday' Surpasses 'Stranger Things' as Netflix's Most-Watched English-Language Show in a Week

Netflix has released yet another hit show revolving around the iconic Addams family, specifically Wednesday Addams. Suffice it to say that the series exceeded people's expectations, considering that they have already established them based on previous shows and films. Since its premiere on November 23rd, it already has 341.2 million hours worth of views.

This Week is All About 'Wednesday'

The performance of Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams was commendable. She revived the Wednesday that people have come to love, all while bringing a new perspective to the character. Fans evidently appreciate this, seeing as Netflix data shows that over 50 million households watched the show.

In contrast, Netflix's other hit show "Stranger Things 4" gathered 335 million hours worth of views in a week. Congratulations are in order for the gothic show for having over five million more views, as mentioned by GameSpot. This will likely secure a second season for the supernatural show, which fans are already clamoring for.

Fingers Crossed for 'Wednesday' Season 2 (Minor Spoilers Ahead)

If it makes you feel better if you're a fan, co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are already discussing the possibility of it. Gough expressed that there is more to explore in the world of the Addams Family. There are many angles that they could tackle, similar to Wednesday's friendship with her trustworthy sidekick, Thing.

The show also showed us a glimpse of Wednesday's uncle-niece relationship with Uncle Fester. He could potentially be a more involved character if there is a season two. Either that or other members of the family will give it a go. Regardless, it'll be a good way to look deeper into Wednesday's relationship with each member of her family.

This possibility paves the way for the co-creators to establish a fresh point of view of the gothic titular character, especially since they expressed that they didn't want it to appear as a reboot. Millar stated that it's a mix of what has happened before, as well as its own thing, which was important to the co-creators and Tim Burton, who directed a few episodes.

As mentioned in Elle, Millar did say that he wanted to explore more of the family, granted that the show will get a new season. He expressed that the actors were amazing at their roles, and that they just touched the surface of some characters.

He also mentioned how Catherine (Zeta-Jones) played Morticia iconically. As seen on the show, Wednesday and Morticia had somewhat of a strained relationship. One of the struggles that Wednesday was experiencing was getting out of her mother's shadow and doing her own thing, which might be a good story to dive into more.

With the success of the show, it's not that far-fetched for it to extend to several more seasons. After all, we haven't seen Cousin It yet. If we look at the success trajectory of "Stranger Things," it is quite similar to "Wednesday," and we have already seen four seasons of it.
