Nokia has officially launched the Lumia 1020 in India and the handset will be available in the country from Oct. 11.
Recently, the Lumia 1020 went up for pre-order on a few Indian online retailers and now customers will be able to grab the handset in just another couple of weeks. The company didn't reveal the exact price, but the estimated price of the smartphone will be Rs. 47,000 to Rs. 48,000 (approximately $757 to $773).
"It is our premium smartphone and our target market is people who value great imaging experience. There are 50 per cent people who click pictures with their smartphones and a fraction of those are camera lovers, who are our target audience for this phone," said Vipul Mehrotra (via The Hindu), Nokia India, Middle East and Africa Director (smartphone devices).
Nokia has a strong presence in the Indian smartphone space. The company has a range of entry to top-end smartphones on offer in the country. The Lumia series of smartphones that launched around the same time in 2012 have also been received well in the country.
Currently, the top-end Lumia 920 and the Lumia 925 are available in India and the company will hope to attract more customers in this segment with the Lumia 1020. However, the Nokia Lumia 1020 will also face stiff competition from other top-end smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One and more, which have a lower price tag than the expected price point of the Lumia 1020.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 packs in high-end specs and features, especially the 41-megapixel rear-facing PureView camera with Xenon flash, which enables users to take high-quality pictures in dark backgrounds as well. The handset may attract many customers who are looking for a good Windows Phone 8 (WP8) powered mobile handset with top-notch camera capabilities, among other neat features.
Nokia has launched the Lumia 102 in three colour variants: black, white and yellow. The company has also confirmed the Nokia Camera Grip, which will be available for Rs. 7,500 (approximately $120). Customers can also buy a Wireless Charging Shell, which will have a price tag of Rs. 3,200 (approximately $51).
