2023 has finally arrived and it seems that it's going to be another busy year for iPhone software.
As one of the most popular smartphones in the world, iPhone's iOS is also the most utilized. With the introduction of iOS 16, there are some features that were promised and speculated to arrive soon.
While the details about iOS 17 are still quite slim, there are several features that Apple already announced to be released this year as part of the upcoming updates. In this article, we listed some of the iOS features that Apple plans to launch this 2023.
1. Apple Pay Later
Apple Pay Later was announced at WWDC 2022 in June 2022. It is a financing feature that will allow qualifying customers in the US to split a purchase into four equal payments over six weeks. And this doesn't come with any interest or fees to pay.
The said feature will be integrated into the Wallet app. According to Apple, the feature is coming in a future software update for qualifying applicants in the US. However, the feature may not be available in all states.
This feature is currently not available with iOS 16.2. Likewise, it is not present in the first beta of iOS 16.3. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple Pay Later might launch with iOS 16.4 this year.
2. Security Keys for Apple ID
The first iOS 16.3 beta enables new Security Keys for Apple ID. According to Apple, the feature will roll out globally in early 2023. With Security Key for Apple ID, you will have the option to use hardware security keys to further protect your account.
If you enable this feature, Security Keys will strengthen Apple's two-factor authentication. It will be done by requiring a hardware security key as one of the two factors instead of just having a verification code from another Apple device.
According to MacRumors, Apple is not planning to release its own hardware security keys. Instead, the feature will use third-party security keys.
3. Apple Card Savings Account
Apple announced in October 2022 that Apple Card users would soon be able to open a new high-yield savings account from Goldman Sachs. With this, users could have their Daily Cash cashback rewards automatically deposited into it. It will come with no fees, no minimum deposits, and no minimum balance requirements.
The account is said to be managed through the Wallet app on the iPhone. While the savings account was included in the release notes for the iOS 16.1 Release Candidate, and Goldman Sachs updated its Apple Card customer agreement for the feature, the feature has still not been launched.
We also did not also see this feature in the first iOS 16.3 beta released last month. Thus, we could only hope to see this in the upcoming updates this 2023.
4. Next-Generation CarPlay
Apple previewed the next-generation iPhone-based software platform CarPlay at the WWDC 2022. The next-generation CarPlay features support for multiple displays and widgets. In addition, it also features integration with vehicle functions such as instrument clusters, climate controls, and FM radio.
According to Apple, the first vehicles with support for the next-generation CarPlay experience will be announced in late 2023. Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche, and Volvo are among the committed automakers.
5. Emergency SOS Satellite
Apple's Emergency SOS via Satellite was first launched in November in the US and Canada. The feature requires an iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, or iPhone 14 Plus running iOS 16.1 or later. Last month, the service became available in select countries. According to Tech Times, this feature will soon become available in more countries and regions.
