The PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2) is just around the corner, with only a few weeks left between now and then. However, with the VR equipment confirmed to be costing just as much as a whole PlayStation 5 console, getting it at launch can be difficult, even with two million units ready for the big day.
If you managed to get a pre-order slot for the upcoming PSVR2, congratulations! You are not part of the lucky few who can get to experience the best Sony has to offer in terms of its new VR platform.
Here are some VR games you may want to put on your digital/physical disc wishlist for you to play on PSVR2's launch day:
The Tale of Onogoro
If you're looking for an anime VR game that mixes traditional Japanese culture with steampunk elements, The Tale of Onogoro is a game you must try on PSVR2's first day.
According to game developer AMATA K.K., the game follows an unnamed deity and their traveling companion, a Japanese high priestess named Haru, to rid the titular island of Onogoro of the evil kami roaming in it.
Although the game's plot is your typical run-of-the-mill shonen anime, the game, its controls, and its mechanics make it a great opportunity to stretch your VR legs with your PSVR2, per Way Too Many Games.
Horizon: Call of the Mountain
One of Sony's original games for the PlayStation platform, Horizon: Call of the Mountain is a game set during Aloy's journey, but not focused on her. Instead, the game will feature a new protagonist whose story will tell a different tale from the game's poster girl.
However, Aloy is not out of the picture entirely. The events of the game will let you play alongside Aloy and even as her in some form, though the game will mostly focus on the new protagonist.
If you're looking for a game that capitalizes on the PS5 and PSVR2's strengths and capabilities, then Horizon: Call of the Mountain is a must-buy. After all, it is designed specifically for the PSVR2, per the official PlayStation website.
No Man's Sky
The game that rose from the ashes of its turbulent past, No Man's Sky will soon have a VR game also developed specifically for the PSVR2.
According to PlayStation Blog, the game's cockpits and control systems, as well as its menu systems and interfaces, were rebuilt from the ground up to accommodate the VR platform.
These are not the only game aspects that were reworked for the platform, though. Hello Games also redesigned the game's teleportation controls, terrain manipulation, and warp effects to further enhance its dynamism, tacticity, and immersion.
If zooming through stars and planets is your cup of coffee, you may want to get this on the PSVR2's launch day.
Resident Evil 4 Remake VR
You may be familiar already with the Resident Evil 4 VR on the Oculus Quest 2 which takes the original 2005 action horror game to VR gaming, but this game is expected to be vastly different from its predecessor.
Resident Evil 4 Remake VR is, simply put, the VR version of Resident Evil 4 Remake set for release on March 24, 2023, per Destructoid.
Players will play Leon S. Kennedy during his mission to rescue the US President's daughter from the clutches of a mysterious Spanish cult. Although the plot remains the same as its 2005 counterpart, everything is overhauled with "modern flourishes" while preserving the original game's identity.
While the game's release date is yet to be announced, it could be coming sometime in the immediate future, in the same timeframe as Resident Evil: Village.
The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR
If up-in-your-face horror games are your cup of tea, then The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR could be the game for you.
The game puts players on a fast-paced VR roller coaster ride that mixes action and horror that makes every decision and everything you see could mean the difference between life and death, per The Dark Pictures' official website.
This VR roller coaster ride isn't like your ordinary haunted ride, though. It features all the apparitions encountered from Season One of The Dark Pictures Anthology. As such, prepare to visit the Ghost Ship of Man of Medan, the titular town of Little Hope, and the otherworldly vampires of House of Ashes.
The game has an eye-tracking system that guarantees you'll see enemies terrifyingly up-close for the scare of your life, even if you're expecting it.
