Apex Legends’ New Event Adds Bug Letting Players Charge Sentinel for Free

Apex Legends players may be getting a hard time picking off snipers soon.

Game developer Respawn Entertainment added a new event in the free-to-play battle royale-hero shooter game that may have included a bug that makes one of the more powerful guns in the game more effective shootouts.

It is unknown if Respawn Entertainment is aware of the bug or if it is working on a fix to patch the bug out of the game's system.

Apex Legends Sentinel ESR Bug Details

Apex Legends' new event, the "spellbound Collection Eve," comes with a few improvements along with activities that will keep players occupied for quite some time. According to Game Rant, the event comes with a handful of cosmetics, private matches, and a limited-time mode called Control.

It even came with several balance changes meant to make the game fair while also being enjoyable. However, one of these changes was reducing the number of shield cells needed to charge the Sentinel sniper rifle from two to one.

For those who don't play the game, the Sentinel Electromagnetic Sniper Rifle is one of the more powerful guns in the game. According to the Apex Legends Wiki, its damage may look normal, with it having a DPS value of 36-45.

However, charging it with shield cells can significantly increase its damage output by 25%, enough to crack an enemy's armor regardless of its durability, including Red armor, per Gfinity.

As a result, a clean body shot with a charged Sentinel does up to 100 damage regardless of what body part players hit.

With the reduction of the required shield cells to charge it, the Sentinel gun may soon be on the way to becoming one of the most overpowered in the game.

However, the reduction didn't work as planned. Instead of using one shield cell to charge the rifle, a bug seems to have made it possible to charge it for free, as Reddit user u/flapjack626 spotted.

However, there is a catch to this bug. For flapjack or any other player to take advantage of the bug, they must have a gold body shield equipped.

Player Reception To The Bug

Apex Legends players are unsurprisingly intrigued with the bug in question, with flapjack's post on the r/apexlegends subreddit accumulating around 1,600 upvotes since it was posted 14 hours ago.

Nevertheless, the existence of this bug is worrisome for players looking for a fair game, as the bug can give an unfair advantage to those who use it. After all, dealing 25% more damage with the Sentinel for free sounds great for those looking to end a game quickly.

While there are some who question the bug's existence outside of the Firing Range, wherein flapjack tested the bug's effect, some users reported they found the same results while playing normal matches.

It is unknown if Respawn Entertainment is aware of the bug.
