'Formula 1: Drive to Survive' Season 5 Will Focus on Major Rule Changes

Based on the trailer released by Netflix, the fifth season will focus on major rule changes that F1 brought in for the 2022 season.

Likewise, it would highlight the potential impact of the regulations on the drivers' and manufacturers' standings.

According to The Drive, F1 updated its technical regulations to overhaul cars' aerodynamics in the 2022 season.

By overhauling cars' aerodynamics, they are making them more dependent on a phenomenon called the "ground effect."

The changes in the technical regulations intend to increase the ease of following and passing, and therefore, the quality of racing. This potentially shakes up the grid being a welcome side effect.

The hierarchy of teams changed. With this, their varying fortunes are likely to be central storylines in the new season of the series.

Although the fifth season's first trailer gives us an idea of what to expect, it's still hard to guess which of 2022's most prominent moments will get airtime.

But based on the trailer, we can expect Ferrari's early-season resurgence before falling to Red Bull in early episodes.

Meanwhile, Mercedes' yearlong struggles culminating in a single race win may be seen throughout the series.

The Driver reported that we might also see successes and struggles of various drivers such as Daniel Ricciardo's continued underperformance.

Netflix is Working on More Sports Documentaries

Looking at the last couple of seasons of "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" and the date when the new season started, we would notice that the show arrived nine days before the race.

For instance, season 3 arrived on Netflix on March 19, whereas the season began on March 28. Meanwhile, season 4 came to Netflix on March 11 while the season started on March 20.

This trend seems to continue in 2023 as the new F1 Championship race of the season is set to happen on March 5, 2023, and Netflix announced that the fifth season of the show will arrive on February 24.

According to What's On Netflix, the streaming platform is also working on more sports documentaries over the coming year. Some of the upcoming shows are said to be using the mold perfected with "Formula 1: Drive to Survive."

The team behind "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" will reportedly release documentaries on the PGA and the ATP and WTA Tour.

In addition, the streaming platform will soon release "Break Point," the tennis docuseries. It will be split into two parts, with the first part arriving on January 13 and the second part hitting the platform sometime in June 2023.

Moreover, "Full Swing," the golf docuseries, will be released this coming February 15. Upon release, all eight episodes will be available to stream.
