Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' Second Trailer is Out— What to Expect from the Movie

Ever since the first sneak peek of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken came out, people have been waiting for more teasers and trailers. They were not disappointed when Warner Bros. Pictures revealed the rest of its cast, showing more familiar faces than we anticipated.

What to Expect from the Movie?

Unlike most of the live adaptations that have been made in the past years, the new live-action "Barbie" movie stays true to its theme, which is vibrant, gleeful, playful, and very pink. Barbieland is just how everyone pictured it to be.

Although the trailer doesn't reveal what the actual plot is aside from showing us a star-studded cast, a summary from Letterboxd says that Margot Robbie's "Barbie" was kicked out of Barbie Land for not being perfect, who will then go to the human world to find happiness.

The live adaptation is what you would expect from an animated "Barbie" movie. While other live adaptations add a more serious tone to the scripts and acting, the trailer shows that the characters are still the bubbly Barbies and Kens we grew up with.

In the movie, you'll find yourself seeing several Barbies and Kens, but there will also be Best Friends and Humans, with the humans living in the "real world" which is outside the perfect and again, very pink, Barbie Land.

The place looks like what a little girl (or boy) would dream of living in. It has a public beach, a backyard pool with a spiral slide, an airport, a salon, and more, as mentioned in The Cut. Even the vehicles look like the toy cars that come with Barbies in a box.

Of course, it wouldn't really be a "Barbie" movie without the characters breaking into song or spontaneous dance numbers, so you can expect a lot of that in the movie, which will come to theaters on July 21st.

Cast and Characters

You probably already know about the Barbie and Ken, which is played by Margot Robbie and Ryan Reynold, but there are several casts and characters that were recently revealed by Warner Bros. Pictures in a tweet, along with posters of each one.

There's "Sex Education" star Emma Mackey, who's been regarded as someone who looked like Robbie. She plays one of the Barbies since there are 11 of them. What makes her different from the rest is that she's a Barbie who won a Nobel Prize in physics.

Nicola Coughlan from "Bridgerton," also Barbie, and her poster states that she's a diplomat. Ritu Arya, known for her role in "The Umbrella Academy" is the Barbie who has a Pulitzer, and Alexandra Shipp from "Tick, Tick... Boom!" is the celebrated author Barbie.

Others with the same titular name include Issa Rae as President, Kate McKinnon as the Barbie "always in splits," Hari Nef as the doctor, Dua Lipa as a mermaid Barbie, Sharon Rooney as a lawyer, and Ana Cruz Kayne as a Supreme Court Justice Barbie.

The posters, funnily enough, did not have descriptions for the Kens and just called them as is. Aside from Ryan Gosling, there's Simu Liu who also played the role of "Shang-Chi," Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, and another "Sex Education" cast, Ncuti Gatwa.

As for the "humans," you'll be seeing Will Ferrel, America Ferrera, Jamie Demetriou, and Connor Swindells (another one from "Sex Education"). The "best friends" are Allan, played by Michael Cera, and Midge, who is played by Emerald Fennel.

Will Ferrel is likely the CEO of Mattel, the toy company that manufactures Barbie dolls. Let's not forget Helen Mirren, who will be the narrator in the movie. With this cast, fans will certainly have high expectations for the movie.
