The period piece from Netflix "Anne with an E" is yet another victim of cancellation, despite petitions from its fans who wanted more from it. The abrupt ending to the series has left a lot of open, tragic, and unsatisfying endings, and many of them deserved better than what they got.
1. Ka'kwet
She deserves to be on top of the list because of how unresolved her storyline was by the end of the show. Ka'kwet was part of the Mi'kmaq people, a group that was regarded by the locals as "Indians" and "savages." Despite that, they were actually very gentle and kind.
When the government opened residential schools for Indigenous Canadians, she was excited to go to learn more about the culture of the locals, only to end up in a place where she would be mistreated. She managed to escape and arrive home but that did not last very long.
She was taken again against her and her parent's will, and when they tried to retrieve her, they were met with threats. There's some comfort in knowing that Ka'kwet could see her parents through the window of the institution, but it wasn't nearly enough.
2. Jerry Baynard
Jerry was the helper that the Cuthberts hired when they realized that the orphanage had sent Anne instead of a boy and throughout the series, fans have learned to love the French Canadian character who is eager to learn.
He soon developed a fling with Anne's best friend, Diana Barry. Although it was good at first, he soon realized that Diana was keeping their connection a secret because she was afraid of what others would think. In that aspect, it was unfortunate that there was never really any closure.
3. Winifred Rose
Winifred or Winnie was the love interest of Gilbert Blythe, who he met by working with Dr. Brian Paul. Gilbert developed an attraction to Winnie because of her charm, wits, and beauty and even planned to propose to her. That changed when he realized that he was in love with Anne.
Gilbert was right for admitting his feelings, but that does not mean that Winnie deserved the heartbreak that resulted from it. She was subjected to humiliation, especially since people were expecting them to be engaged and her family had already made arrangements for the wedding.

4. Jeannie
Jeannie is a store owner from Charlottetown that sold dresses, and viewers soon saw that he had a previous fling with Matthew Cuthbert when they were still young and in school. When they cross paths again, she was all too glad to see an old flame.
Even after all this time, she still had a fondness for Matthew, but he decided that he cannot reciprocate her feelings because he wanted to spend his time with Anne. There were a lot of ways that could've developed, but instead, she went away to Paris.
5. Billy Andrews
Better does not necessarily mean good. In this case, a better ending means a more fitting ending for one of the characters, which is Billy Andrews. It's not easy to forgive what Billy has done in the entire series since he didn't really go through character development.
His actions included verbal bullying, physical harm, destruction of property, sexual harassment, and so on, yet the show never really gave him what was due, which were consequences. It's like he just got away with everything and went on to find a new girl to court.
