Fortnite will have ranked mode once again.
Epic Games recently announced that it is bringing back ranked mode for Fortnite for those who wish to know how good they are among the game's player base.
Fortnite's ranked mode is coming to its Battle Royale and Zero Build version on May 16, per Gamespot.
Fortnite Ranked Mode Details
Epic Games mentioned in its announcement that the ranks in its new Ranked Mode would have eight tiers for players to compete for, which are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion, and Unreal.
Interestingly, Epic Games might have named Fortnite's last tier "Unreal" in honor of the Unreal Engine Epic Games develops, per The Verge.
The ranked tiers from Bronze to Diamond will have three ranks for players to slog through, while Elite, Champion, and Unreal will only have one since those who earned them don't have much to compete with.
Players who reach the Unreal tier will stay in it regardless of their future ranked match results, though that doesn't mean the grind is over. They would be given a number that signifies their standing among those who achieved the Unreal tier globally; winning more ranked matches allows them to progress through the Unreal tier until they're named the best in the world.
Players in the Unreal tier can see their position on the online ranked leaderboard, which updates regularly and display players' Epic display name and Unreal position.

The re-introduction of ranked mode for Fortnite also comes with a season system, with v24.40 being the start of Season Zero for the game. This season will last until the end of Battle Royale Chapter 4, Season 3. During this time, Epic Games will make any adjustments to issues and concerns that could come its way during the re-introduction of ranked mode into the game.
It would also be working on additional features and overall improvements for when Ranked mode officially becomes available following the normal Battle Royale Season schedule.
Players' initial Battle Royale and Zero Mode ranks are based on their past match performance and how good they were in their first Ranked Battle Royale and Ranked Zero Build match. Players won't need to play multiple ranked matches to see their initial rank - they'll only need to go through one in both modes to reveal their initial rank.
How Rank Progression Works
Once they have their initial rank, players could then progress or regress their rank depending on their future performance, though how much will depend on a few factors.
These factors are:
- match placement
- number of eliminations as a player or a team member in the match
Epic noted that eliminations done later in the match count more than those made in its earlier stages. Additionally, the ranks of the players they eliminated will be taken into account towards rank progression.
Teams will be treated as a single unit, meaning that all team members will gain or lose progress equally based on their elimination and placement at the end of a match.
Interestingly, a team's rank is determined by the highest-ranked player on the team; if the highest ranking member is at Gold 1, the whole team will matchmake as a Gold 1 team and will play against similarly-ranked teams.
