Twitter Teases New Video-Related Features for App Expansion

Twitter is slowly turning int othe everything App Elon Musk wants it to be.

Company Senior Product Designer Andrea Conway recently posted an image teasing Twitter users of a few upcoming new video-related features to the mobile app.

Twitter's latest video-related feature was the ability for a Twitter user with a Blue subscription to post longer videos than those that don't, per 9to5Mac.

Twitter Upcoming Video-related Features

The teaser image Conway posted on her official Twitter account showed a pull-up menu featuring a few options normally seen on a YouTube video.

According to the photo, Twitter users could soon look forward to closed captions and switch between various playback speeds, allowing them to watch the video as slow or as fast as they want.

The menu also comes with options to either share, download, or report the video if the situation arises. While some of these options are already available on Twitter's current iteration, they are not as accessible as they should be; Conway's photo of the pull-up menu also doubles as a way of showcasing the menu itself, which could be a sign that Twitter is taking its transition from being a microblogging platform to an everything app seriously.

The addition of these features may very well be Twitter's attempt to compete with other video-sharing platforms like TikTok and even YouTube, though exactly when these features would be available for public use is still unclear.

What is clear, though, is that Twitter will soon be capable of playing videos in picture-in-picture mode and resolution options for users to choose from.

Outgoing Twitter CEO Elon Musk previously mentioned that he wants to turn Twitter into an everything app; he envisions it as something like a "digital town square" where users can leave comments and eventually make payments in crypto or fiat currency.

As such, Musk plans for his upcoming Twitter-based Everything app to allow customers to shop, pay, and message other people on the platform.

However, Musk had to acquire Twitter first or build his everything app from scratch, with the latter option probably being unappealing to the SpaceX CEO due to the resources involved.

Twitter's Future

Twitter is definitely on its way to becoming Musk's everything app called X, per Make Use Of. You may recall that he recently announced he would be stepping down as Twitter's CEO to become its Chief Technology Officer and focus on Twitter's product design and new technology.

Meanwhile, Linda Yaccarino would soon replace Musk as Twitter's CEO in a few weeks, with Musk explaining that she would start her work as Twitter's head honcho six weeks from May 12, with her focusing on the company's business operations. Musk previously mentioned he is looking forward to working with Yaccarino to transform Twitter into X.

For those unaware, Yacarrino previously helped establish close collaborations with big brands, finding opportunities for product placements, and convincing them to advertise alongside TV shows, even those with risque content, per the BBC.
