Meta has introduced its latest version of the Quest VR headset today, which comes with several improvements compared to its predecessor. Although the information is still limited and will be revealed in the Meta Connect event in September, they are a few details that were revealed.

For one, the VR headset has a storage of 128GB and will cost you $499.99. Users can even purchase additional space in the event that they run out. It now has a 40% slimmer optic profile compared to Quest 2, as mentioned in Ars Technica.

The headset is also equipped with the highest resolution display yet from the company made possible by the next-gen Snapdragon chipset, which was developed by collaborating with Qualcomm technologies. Meta claims it provides twice the graphical performance.

With that being said, users can expect a smoother performance and more vivid details. Some of the activities you can do with the headset include playing virtual board games on a real-life table with Demeo, as well as decorating a room with virtual art through Painting VR.

The mixed reality experience works through Meta Reality technology understanding and responding to the objects around the user. Factors like machine learning and spatial understanding let the user interact with virtual content and physical space at the same time.

Players will see the physical space through a 4 MP RGB color camera as well as a depth sensor. Through high-fidelity color Passthrough, users will see more clearly as it displays ten times more pixels than the previous version.

Since Quest 3 is backwards compatible, its users will be able to access more than 500 VR games and apps from the Quest 2 catalog, which adds to the new VR and MR games that are set to launch along with the new VR headset.

Apple's AR/VR Headset

Apple has always been one of the leading companies in the industry when it comes to technological innovation, so it's natural that people are excited about the upcoming AR/VR headset that Apple will soon offer, which they might unveil at the WWDC event this June 5th.

Rumors have been floating around about its new device, but there's no way to know for sure until the company itself reveals it. Still, the speculations say that the AR/VR device will be a standalone device, which means you won't need iPhones or iPads to use it.

It comes with Apple silicon chips so its performance will be as powerful as that of Apple's Macs, as reported by MacRumors. It will have its own operating system, which is called xrOS, and has an eye and gesture tracking feature as well as an external battery pack.
