Meta Products Will Soon Get Generative AI Features, Says Mark Zuckerberg

AI, more specifically generative AI, has been at its height, so it makes you wonder why it hasn't been integrated into most of the mainstream apps we use today. Meta is finally understanding how big a generative AI feature could be as its CEO claims that the technology will be part of its products soon.

Meta Including Generative AI in Apps

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg just held a company-wide meeting to deliver the news, saying that the company plans to add generative AI into every single one of its products. In fact, Zuckerberg has the ambitious goal of Meta being seen as one of the leaders in the field.

The tech giant's messaging apps, WhatsApp and Messenger, would be getting their very own AI agents or chatbots. Meta has already been developing "AI personas" since late February 2023, also expressing early on its aim to add generative AI into its services.

Instagram is also set to offer generative AI photo editing, wherein just like AI art generators, users will be able to edit their photos through text prompts. They can then share these photos through Story. However, that may not be the only AI feature users will see.

Aside from WhatsApp and Messenger, Instagram may also be getting its own AI agent, as mentioned in Engadget. Alessandro Paluzzi, an app researcher, saw an early version of an AI chatbot on the app, which can answer questions and give advice.

As for Facebook, Zuckerberg said in a company earnings call that the social media platform will add post creation and advertiser tools. It could also be through editing post content and formats using generative AI, as well as using it to create the most effective methods of advertising.

These AI features will not only serve as additional tools for the platforms, but they can also add a certain level of convenience for those who touch up or add effects to their photos. Having generative AI tools makes for a streamlined process as opposed to using other apps.

Sadly, Mark Zuckerberg has only revealed their plans to integrate AI into the platforms, and not much about what they will be able to do or when they will be launched. Although, we may likely be seeing it soon as apps join the race for such features.

AI in Apps

Meta is not the first company to add AI to its apps. In fact, Snapchat has already added its own AI chatbot called "My AI." It can be found on the topmost part of the app's chats. However, users weren't exactly happy about the new feature.

Based on the limited information on Meta, its own generative AI features will likely be different from Snapchat. Although they will be adding AI agents to the messaging platforms, the company will not be limiting it to just a chatbot.

Just as Meta intends to add text prompt commands for editing photos on Instagram Stories, it could also be added for Facebook Reels which has been gaining popularity steadily. It could also give the platform an edge in its competition with TikTok in short-form videos.
