Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Shares His Thoughts on Apple’s Vision Pro

As you know, Apple just unveiled its first AR/VR headset called Vision Pro. Days before that, Meta also revealed its Quest 3 headset. Given that the two can be seen as competitors to each other, it's normal to compare the two. Even Meta's CEO himself had something to say.

Mark Zuckerberg's Take on Apple's Vision Pro

As Zuckerberg spoke to his employees, he expressed his opinion on the newly unveiled AR/VR headset by Apple. The statement shows that the Meta CEO was unimpressed by the technology, even stating that it wasn't even new anymore.

In his own words, he stated that "there's no kind of magical solutions that they have to any of the constraints on laws of physics that our teams haven't already explored and thought of." In other words, "Been there, done that."

It was also pointed out that due to the technology they added to the headset, the device now costs seven times more (than Quest 3) and also requires more energy, resulting in it needing a wire to sustain prolonged use as opposed to using it wirelessly for two hours only.

The tech CEO did mention that Vision Pro had a better resolution display, although he framed it in a way where it added to the list of things that makes the device use too much energy. He also acknowledged that the design makes sense for the "cases that they're going for."

Most importantly, the Meta CEO pointed out that Meta and Apple have different values and vision based on pricing. The social media company intends to make its products accessible and affordable to everyone as much as possible, as shown in The Verge.

Zuckerberg also noted that with Meta Quest, users were meant to dive into the metaverse to be "fundamentally social." Since the Meta headset is more game-centric, it also encourages its users to be active and move around as they play.

Difference Between Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro

For one, the biggest difference would be the price. Meta Quest 3 is priced at $499.99, while the Apple Vision Pro is priced at a whopping $3,499. As Zuckerberg said, that's already equivalent to seven Meta headsets.

The Meta Quest 3 headset is also more on socializing and gaming while users can interact with other Meta headset users. Apple Vision Pro, on the other hand, focuses more on the day-to-day tasks that a person would do on their devices like using apps or watching TV shows.

Apple's AR/VR headset doesn't come with handheld controllers, as opposed to Meta's headset, which makes sense since Apple didn't really create its AR/VR device for gaming. Instead of a controller, users will use their hands through gestures, eye-tracking, and voice commands.

When it comes to display, Apple is evidently superior based on specs. The displays on each eye deliver 23 million pixels, which according to Interesting Engineering, is more than a 4K TV. The question is, are the differences worth the $3,000 price gap?
