WhatsApp users could access multiple WhatsApp accounts from a single app soon.
Meta and WhatsApp are reportedly working on adding support for multi-account functionality to the app in a future update, allowing WhatsApp users to connect multiple accounts to a single app.
The feature is still under development; it is unclear when the update containing it will be available to the public as of press time.
WhatsApp Multi-Account Functionality Support Details
WhatsApp is working on new features to improve the Quality-of-Life features users enjoy whenever they use the app on their phones and desktops. One of these features is multi-account functionality support that allows accessing multiple WhatsApp accounts from the same app and device, per WABetaInfo.
WhatsApp users may be familiar with the fact that WhatsApp does not support multi-account functionality since it first came out in Nov. 2009, per Feedough. Even when Meta (known as Facebook Inc. at the time) acquired it in 2014, the app still didn't allow its users to connect multiple WhatsApp accounts on the same app and device, preventing them from switching to and accessing their other account/s if needed.
WABetaInfo spotted the feature's makings through the WhatsApp Business beta for the Android 2.23.13.5 update, which is available on the Google Play Store.
Interestingly, the publication took note of pieces of evidence suggesting the feature's compatibility with WhatsApp Messenger.
The feature is allegedly accessible through a menu that allows a user to select which account they want to log into, somewhat similar to how Messenger users switch accounts. As a result, it is now possible for a single user to access two or more accounts in a single app, ensuring that users can maintain privacy, efficiently manage notifications, transfer files, and switch between different ones without using other messaging apps.
This feature is especially useful for WhatsApp users who have registered two different accounts using two different SIM cards and are using a dual-SIM phone, per Android Police.
Keep in mind, though, that this feature is different from the Companion Mode WhatsApp is working on, which lets users connect multiple phones to their accounts.
WhatsApp's multi-account functionality feature is still under development; the company has yet to release it for beta testers to try out. However, like all future features, WhatsApp will eventually release it to beta testers in one of the app's future updates.
WhatsApp's Other Upcoming Features
Aside from the multi-account functionality and Companion Mode, WhatsApp is working on other features to improve the service and convenience it provides to users. For instance, the company was previously spotted to be testing WhatsApp's screen-sharing feature, along with a Bottom Navigation Bar for Android WhatsApp users, which is a few steps away from a stable, future public release.
WhatsApp may also have animated emojis and a self-destructing option for group chats soon, though it has been quite some time since we last heard about these particular features.
