WhatsApp is doing something about the problem with its emoji keyboard.
The popular secured messaging platform is reportedly working on a fix that addresses the crash connected with the app's emoji keyboard, preventing it from happening when users access it.
Although the fix is being rolled out, other WhatsApp users might not find the update available for them to download as of press time.
WhatsApp Emoji Keyboard Crash Fix
WhatsApp's new interface for the security notifications screen of its Android app was a hit. While the interface is still being beta tested, the minor enhancements the company made reinforce the notion of security and more user-friendly.
To be specific, the new interface reinforces the idea of WhatsApp being secured using the redesigned list in the security notifications section, which is now offering a more user-friendly experience. According to WABetaInfo's post at the time, it can now easily understand that WhatsApp intends to enhance the application's interface.
However, the changes were expected to make something bad happen. According to WABetaInfo's recent post, the changes introduced several important crashes and critical issues while using the emoji keyboard - a problem widespread enough that WhatsApp took notice.
Aside from the emoji keyboard, people have also reported they couldn't react to messages with emojis after pressing the "plus" button within the reaction tray. Additionally, some users experienced the app crashing when they were configuring their avatars, accessing the privacy screen, and adding text over images using the drawing editor.
Unfortunately, users still downloaded the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.15.21 version, the update in question, leading to more users experiencing crashes. Thankfully, WhatsApp is reportedly fixing the crashes, especially on the emoji keyboard, through the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.15.22 version.
WhatsApp is rolling out the fix after users install the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.15.22 update from the Google Play Store. As such, users affected by the crashes are advised to update their WhatsApp to use it without any crashes.
Whether WhatsApp's fix for the crashes and issues it introduced with its WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.15.21 version will stick is up for debate. However, as it is now, the fix is the only change WhatsApp users can go back to using the app without it crashing.
Upcoming WhatsApp features
WhatsApp released its new security notifications interface for beta testing on July 20. However, that isn't the only update the company is working on and beta testing.
You may recall that WhatsApp is testing a feature that brings improved profile icons within its group chats, giving users without profile pictures easily distinguishable ones in group chats. It is also developing a feature that allows users to send animated avatar stickers to other WhatsApp users.
Furthermore, WhatsApp users can expect the app to have a feature called phone number privacy" which will hide their phone numbers when they add a reaction to a group message.
