Netflix to Stop DVD Rental Service Soon
Starting September 29, Netflix will officially stop shipping DVD discs as it will cease its operation soon. The company executives attributed the decision on the decreasing interest in availing the DVD rental service.
Although Netflix is known now as a top streaming service, it was not its original service. In 1997, Netflix was founded in California with its primary service of mail-based rental business.
In 2007, Netflix transitioned to streaming services and was able to become a staple streaming service choice for its audience. In a data by DemandSage, it showed that Neftlix has currently 238 million subscribers worldwide. Moreover, Netflix is preferred by almost half of the Americans as a streaming provider.
Netflix Continues Its Expansion Plans
With other streaming sites competing against Netflix, the company has started to see a decline on its revenue. In addition, password sharing has become rampant on paid streaming services making the company launch a new policy.
As a result, Netflix has started investing on video games making it easier for gamers to play free games as part of their subscription. To further boost the gaming engagement, Netflix just recently unveiled its gaming control app that will allow games to be played outside your mobile phones.
