Ridley Scott's "Alien" series has landed in The Fog.
Behaviour Interactive's latest chapter to its asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight, "Alien," brings Sigourney Weaver's Amanda Ripley, the Xenomorph Queen, and the Nostromo to the game.
Dead by Daylight: Alien is now playable on all available platforms.
Dead By Daylight: Alien Chapter Features
Dead By Daylight's Alien chapter is a fountain of fan service for players who are also fans of the hit series. According to Behaviour Interactive's announcement, players can expect to explore a reinterpreted recreation of the Nostromo (or at least its wreckage) from Ridley Scott's classic film.
Behaviour Interactive Associate Artistic Director, Chase Toole, stated that the company did its best to honor the source material while respecting Dead by Daylight's gameplay and the universe it built. As such, players can expect to see many familiar sights in the wreckage arranged to help facilitate gameplay.
These familiar sights include the hypersleep chamber, the medbay, the mess hall, and other iconic locations in the ship - all of them twisted by the Entity, as evidenced by its tendrils.
With the Xenomorph about, players must rely on (destructible) remote flame turrets to protect themselves. It warns them when the Xenomorph is nearby and disables its power when they fire at it.
Ellen Ripley Overview, Abilities
Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley makes an appearance in Dead by Daylight's survivor roster as the chapter's survivor. Her perks focus on keeping herself hidden through various means, allowing her to traverse maps without being detected.
For instance, her "Lucky Star" perk allows her to leave no pools of blood and make no sounds for a short period when she hides in a locker. When she does exit, the perk will briefly reveal the Aura of all teammates and the closest Generator for Ripley to work on.
Ripley's "Light-Footed" perk allows her to silently run when she's healthy, though it will enter a brief cooldown period after a Rushed Action. Needless to say, players cannot use this perk while Ripley or the survivor equipping it is exhausted.
Last but not least, her "Chemical Trap" perk gives the ability to install a temporary trap on a dropped pallet after repairing a Generator for a short period. This perk allows her to momentarily slow down a pursuing killer when they break the trapped pallet.
Alien Overview, Abilities
Ripley may look formidable, but the Xenomorph Queen has its tricks to look out for/utilize. Its power, "Hidden Pursuit," allows it to navigate a subterranean tunnel network for rapid traversal across the map and detect nearby survivor movement.
Once inside the tunnels, the Xenomorph can emerge at one of several Control Stations in seconds. These Control Stations can act as detectors, allowing the Xenomorph to detect nearby survivors when it exits there.
Even in the open, the Xenomorph knows how to keep Survivors on their toes - its special ability allows the Xenomorph to move on all fours, significantly reducing its Terror Radius. As a result, stealthier mobility and attacks are possible; it could even strike Survivors with a tail attack that can hit through windows, over dropped pallets, and more when in this state.
Meanwhile, the Xenomorph's perks allow it to detect and zero into a survivor with ease. Its "Ultimate Weapon" perk forces any nearby survivor to scream, reveal their aura, and be temporarily blinded when it checks a locker.
Its "Alien Instinct" allows the Xenomorph to see the aura of the furthest survivor when they hook one, giving that survivor the Oblivious status effect while their aura is revealed. Finally, its "Rapid Brutality" perk gives it a speed boost every time it hits a survivor with a basic attack, ending pursuits much more quickly.
