It's never a good idea to hurt Elon Musk's feelings because he has the tendency to blow things out of proportion. The tech billionaire, along with the social media platform he acquired, has been accused of antisemitism. Musk has no plans of addressing the matter and is going straight to legal action.
Musk is Filing the Lawsuit This Time
In the last year, Musk is often at the receiving end of a lawsuit. The tables have turned as the X owner is failing it against someone, particularly the Anti-Defamation League. The irony is not lost on anyone, especially since Musk pointed it out.
In his post, the Tesla CEO says that he is filing a defamation suit to clear the platform's name on the matter of anti-Semitism, even adding "Oh the irony!" at the end. In a previous post, Musk clarified that he was "pro free speech" but is against anti-Semitism of any kind.
In addition to hitting the ADL with a lawsuit, the tech billionaire is also blaming the organization for X (formerly Twitter) still failing with its advertising. Musk stated that the US ad revenue is still down 60% due to pressure on advertisers by ADL, as reported by Tech Crunch.
The accusation started due to the X owner being called out for liking posts with the hashtag #BanTheADL. Liking the posts also came just hours after X CEO Linda Yaccarino discussed matters about fighting hate speech with the ADL.
Musk already posted somewhat of a warning against the organization, saying that since the acquisition, the ADL has been trying to kill the platform by "falsely accusing" it and Musk of being anti-Semitic, adding that they have no choice but to sue if it continues.
Regardless of whether the tech billionaire is anti-Semitic or not, the platform has been dealing with issues like this long before Musk even contemplated purchasing what once was Twitter. Despite the moderation system, users are still posting discriminatory content.
X's Policy on Hateful Conduct
In order to create a safe space for its users, the platform has implemented policies against hateful conduct. Such references against individuals or groups may lead to suspension or being outright banned from the social media site.
Users are also prohibited from inciting fear or spreading fearful stereotypes about a certain group or person, as well as encouraging others to discriminate even in the form of denial of support. With that said, hateful imagery symbolizing hate groups a not permitted within the platform.
This also applies to the dehumanization of people based on religion, caste, age, race, age, disability, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. The policies are clear enough, yet some users don't really follow them and sometimes get away with it.
Once flagged for violating the policy, the post with hateful content will be taken down by the platform, or at the very least, have its discoverability restricted. Likes, replies, reports, quotes, and other engagements will also be restricted in the post.
