Ubisoft’s Upcoming FPS Game Will Experience Delays Due to Failed Quality Checks

Ubisoft has provided gamers with several titles from various franchises such as Far Cry, Watch Dogs, and Assassin's Creed. In addition to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, the publisher is also releasing another multiplayer FPS game, XDefiant. However, it hit a snag, meaning that the release will be delayed.

Failed Quality Checks

The upcoming game titled XDefiant is a first-person shooter online shooter, much like Call of Duty. Players have been anticipating the release date for the title, but they will have to wait a little longer as the game fails its first-party certification test this August.

The test in question is an important step so that players can play the game using consoles. The failed test was revealed by Ubisoft Game Director Mark Rubin, explaining that other companies like Sony and Microsoft test every game release as well.

This is to make sure that the titles work properly. As mentioned in Kotaku, the test isn't to determine whether the game has bugs or if it performs well. Mainly, it's to make sure that the game follows the rules of the platform so it doesn't break the device.

Ubisoft started the certification back in late July but only got the result this August showing that it had failed. Rubin says that it made them realize how much work they have left to do concerning compliance than they had anticipated.

If XDefiant did pass the test it went through in July, then the game might've been released by the end of August 2023. Sadly, the video game company will have to fix those issues first, which may take three to four weeks, and go through the test again.

Right now, the developers are already finalizing their submission build. It is expected to be sent back for certification in around two weeks. Should it pass the test, then players might be able to finally play the game this September, although it could still be pushed back to October.

What to Expect in XDefiant

Like most first-person shooter games, the title would be free to play. The arena shooter takes place through online matches wherein players will get to see 14 maps throughout. There will also be five factions to choose from, all of which come from various Ubisoft games.

You might recognize appearances from Ghost Recon, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs as you choose. There are also different modes to choose from, including casual games where you just play to win, or competitive mode where you play to win to rank up.

XDefiant characters will have their own abilities and ultimate abilities, just like Apex Legends and Valorant. When entering a match, players can choose six players from any faction, which they can switch in between during an ongoing match.

It's important for the game to pass its certification test since it will feature crossplay, meaning that you will encounter players whether they are playing on PC or consoles. The game will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
