Amazon is making the best out of its AI tools just as other companies have. Following its AI-generated summarization of reviews, vendors on the online retail site can now use AI to create product listings with minimal effort.
AI-Generated Product Listing
Using a large language model, sellers can now create product listings without having to do much. The AI will be able to create the usual contents of a listing, including bullet points and the main product description. All a seller has to do is provide the necessary information.
Amazon calls the feature Generative Listing Content tool. With a few words and sentences, the AI will generate "high-quality content for their review," meaning that they can still make changes to the generated description as they see fit before publishing it.
According to the retail giant, the process that takes "just one step" has already been used by many sellers over the last few months, with feedback stating that they no longer revise the generated content and submit them immediately, as reported by Engadget.
The company boasts that the AI will help sellers generate listings with "less effort and present customers with more complete, consistent, and engaging product information that will enhance their shopping experiences," as per Amazon Vice President Mary Beth Westmoreland
Amazon VP of Selection and Catalog, Robert Tekiela says that the new generative AI models can "infer, improve, and enrich product knowledge at an unprecedented scale and with dramatic improvement in quality, performance, and efficiency."
Tekiela added that the model is smart enough to automatically identify product specifications based on the provided information. For instance, when a seller adds the diameter of a table, the AI can determine that the product is round through logical reasoning.
Amazon's AI-Generated Review Summary
Just a month ago, Amazon also introduced AI-generated reviews on its site, which compiles all the human-made product reviews and creates a summary so that customers won't have to scroll through and read them one by one.
The summarization will be in a one-paragraph blurb, which includes both the features and qualities that customers like or dislike. Amazon says that the feature has been active and has been tested for at least a couple of months, as reported by The Verge.
The feature can be seen in electronic products mostly such as TVs, headphones, tablets, and fitness trackers. However, they have not been entirely consistent as some products of the same brand have summarized reviews while others did not.
Since the AI feature is created by the company that profits from the sales, it's justifiable to be skeptical about it being biased. Reports say that the summaries focus more on the positive aspects of the collective reviews and leave the negative ones by the end.
Customers can easily spot which one is the AI-generated review since it is indicated with a heading that says "Customers say." According to Amazon, the AI also identifies which reviews are fake and does not include them when generating an overview of all the ratings.
