Apple Says Certain Apps are Causing the iPhone 15 Devices to Overheat

Apple enthusiasts were excited about the release of the latest iPhone lineup, some of whom have already gotten one for themselves. However, it wasn't long before people started complaining about the phone overheating, and Apple is already pointing fingers at what's to blame.

What Makes It a 'Hot' Product

When people heard about all the new exciting features that the iPhone 15 series has to bring, they were willing to pay up to $1,199 for it. The disappointment came later when they realized that the phone tends to overheat when certain apps are open.

Some users complained that they couldn't even hold the phone anymore due to the temperature. According to the tech giant, particular apps are to blame for overheating issues, as well as iOS 17 bugs, as reported by The Verge.

This comes as a defense against those who speculate that it's the hardware that's causing the unusual rise in temperature of the device. Apple says that third-party apps are causing, specifically new updates to apps such as Instagram.

The photo-centric app has already addressed the issue by releasing version 302 on September 27th, although there are still others that cause the phone to overheat. An Apple spokesperson also mentioned apps like Uber and the mobile game Asphalt 9.

The iPhone manufacturer assures that there is no safety risk in the temperature increase during use, although other factors like USB-C power adapters with more than 20W charging can contribute to the thermal problem, causing the phone to "run warmer than normal."

Apple aims to fix the issue with an iOS update, particularly with the upcoming iOS 17.1. It was also clarified that the performance of the latest flagship models would not be affected after the update, which could be possible according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Why It's a Problem if It's Not Fixed

Apple is proud of the upgrades in the lineup such as the new A17 Pro chip and a six-core GPU which is meant to make apps run smoothly. In fact, these were among the selling points of the series that were within the $1,000 price range.

The company even boasted that the iPhone 15 Pro would be capable of running AAA games through cloud gaming. In case you don't know, AAA games tend to be several times more depending on your typical app like Facebook or X.

If the iPhone 15s are already having problems with simple apps, then it could be disastrous if anyone tried to use the smartphone for something as heavy as gaming. There's a possibility that the issue lies with iOS 17 alone when it comes to Instagram.

Users of the iPhone 14 have reported heat issues after updating to the latest OS, and also upon using Instagram, as mentioned by Apple Insider, but that doesn't answer why apps like Uber and Asphalt 9 were causing the iPhone 15 to heat up.

What's left to do now is avoid using the mentioned problematic apps for the time being to avoid damaging the phone, and wait for the iOS 17.1 update to see if that solves the issue. If not, then Apple might be in for an expensive resolution.
