Ticketmaster promised last month an All-In Pricing that will allow fans to see the overall ticket fees right away, however, the platform is still hiding some extra fees unless a user logs in.
Ticketmaster's All-In Pricing
For a while, fans have been complaining about Ticketmaster's strategy of hiding fees when browsing for tickets. As a result, Live Nation Entertainment, the parent company of Ticketmaster, pledged to show customers "the total cost from the start" of their online purchase starting in September.
With the all-in pricing, any venue, artist, or sports team can opt to display its full pricing for their event. According to Ticketmaster, events in New York, Tennessee, and Connecticut are required to show their all-in pricing.
The new setting was slated to begin last September 25. The new pricing view aims to support the Biden administration's effort to reduce junk fees on many consumer products and services to avoid the hiking of advertised prices.
All-In Pricing as Default Setting for Live Nation, Ticketmaster
Just a month later, reports showed that in some events extra fees are still hidden behind multiple clicks. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., requested to expand the all-in pricing view as a default setting for Live Nation and Ticketmaster selling platforms. The senator called out the company to "keep your promises and be transparent about how much each ticket costs."
However, Live Nation cited that it does not have the power to do so. Moreover, the company argued that the disclosure announcement never included all of the thousands of other venues that are selling on Ticketmaster. In the case that all-in pricing is not offered for the event, Ticketmaster directs its customers to enable the Price Toggle feature on the Filters section.
Gizmodo looked into the matter and observed that Live Nation only listed the base price "+Fees" without any details on what the fees are unless the user signs in and checks out the ticket.
