'3 Body Problem' Faces Delay, Moves Release to March 2024

The upcoming sci-fi epic "3 Body Problem" is moved once again as Netflix announced that the series will hit the platform on March 21, 2024.

All About '3 Body Problem'

The long-awaited series is based on Liu Cixin's internationally acclaimed book "The Three-Body Problem" and the trilogy "Remembrance of the Past." According to Netflix, the eight-episode series will open the audience to a world of investigative mysteries and discoveries. Set in various timelines the story will begin in the 1960s China and will eventually jump through space and time into the present day.

Author Cixin expressed his joy to have his concept come to life with the help of Netflix. "I set out to tell a story that transcends time and the confines of nations, cultures and races; one that compels us to consider the fate of humankind as a whole," he said during its 2020 announcement. He also took the role of the consulting producer as part of his close involvement in the production.

The "3 Body Problem" ensemble features diverse and international actors such as Benedict Wong, Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Alex Sharp, Zine Tseng, Rosalind Chao, Saamer Usmani, Liam Cunningham, Sir Jonathan Pryce, Marlo Kelly, Sea Shimooka, Eve Ridley, and Ben Schnetzer.

'3 Body Problem' Delayed Release

The series was initially announced by Netflix in 2020. However, it seemed that the pandemic restrictions back then could have affected the production pace of the series. According to the VP of the original series, Peter Friedlander, the original novel changed the meaning of science fiction for him. The company was granted rights from the "Three-Body Universe" and Yoozoo Group to produce the English-language series adaptation of the novel.

"Every person involved not only shares a passion and high esteem for the books, but also the creative vision and ambition to help bring this remarkable story to life for audiences around the world," he assured.

The team is comprised of Emmy-winning creators of David Benioff and D.B. Weiss from "Game of Thrones." They are also joined by Emmy-nominated writer and producer Alexander Woo from "The Terror: Infamy" and "True Blood."

While Netflix did not disclose the details of the delay, the streaming site released the trailer for the series and other promotional materials, assuring that the series is finally coming to the small screens.
