Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed a patent that allows players to replay their favorite scenes from a game campaign via streaming.
The patent, Content Streaming With Gameplay Launch, will let players replay memorable moments from the selectable "trigger points" provided "by the platform, publisher, or third-party publisher".
The "trigger points" may be the start of a boss battle, cutscene, a quest, or when a player levels up.
Sony said the "replay" system will offer a "unique user experience for consumption of media content with interactive gameplay" for players to visit portions of the game on their own.
The patent was inspired by "movie cuts" in games that can be replayed after first seeing it.
Sony's patent was first filed on July 11 and was publicly published on Nov. 2, Thursday.
Sony Games with Rich Story and Interesting Gameplays
The introduction of a game replay to Sony games will help players relive their gaming experience once again. And that is a lot of moments for Sony-published games.
Sony has published well-known titles like God of War, The Last of Us, Marvel's Spider-Man, Horizon West, and Ghost of Tsushima.
The only way to replay memorable battles and fights in these games is to reload a previously saved file or restart the campaign.
There are no clues if the feature will be implemented in Sony-owned gaming portals soon. Sony has already filed a patent of a similar name in 2019 and again in 2021.
Sony Gaming and Entertainment Profit Grows
The Japanese-based tech giant was previously revealed to have improved profitability in the entertainment segment from the July and September period.
Film and TV, music, games, and network services revenues increased by 8% to $18.7 billion.
The increase in its gaming sector is attributed to high foreign revenues via hardware and software sales. This includes the high sales of its PlayStation 5 unit sold over 46 million copies since release.
