Windows 10 users will soon be able to enjoy the Copilot AI assistant, months after Microsoft announced the operating system's end-of-support date.
The chatbot will be available to Release Preview testers and soon to Windows 10 version 22H2.
Devices running 0 Home and Windows 10 Pro with at least 4GB of RAM and a 720p or higher display will also receive the feature.
However, it is important to note that not all Copilot features will not be available to Windows 10.
The Copilot AI in Windows 10 cannot customize preferences and settings, as well as open apps. Microsoft said it will add similar features soon.
The update will not include enterprise, Education, and company-managed Pro editions of Windows 10. The update will only roll out to North America and certain parts of Asia and South America.
Copilot AI was initially only available to Windows 11. Copilot replaced Cortana.
Windows 10 Last Updates Before End-of-Support
Copilot's addition to the Windows 10 system is one of the last Microsoft updates to the software before the 2025 end-of-support.
The tech giant announced in April that all Windows 10 editions will receive monthly security updates until Oct. 14, 2025. The Windows 10 22H2 will be the final version of the system.
Despite nearing its end date, Windows 10 remains to have more users than its successor.
Windows 10 still has over a billion monthly active devices compared to the 400 million active devices for Windows 11.
Copilot AI: Features, Improvements, and Downgrades
Copilot is Microsoft's replacement for the Cortana virtual assistant that users have become familiar with for over nine years.
The Copilot AI runs Bing Chat or Bing Chat Enterprise to communicate with users.
Cortana's replacement is intended to provide better search results, more complete answers, a better conversation experience, and the ability to generate content.
Copilot can be accessed through voice commands.
However, the same features that offer access can also be a source of frustration for users.
Many users reported the Copilot AI as distracting, suggesting many things that can overwhelm people.
Microsoft has since then regularly updated the software for better user experience.
