Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was released just recently, and aside from bad reviews, the game is already facing problems with its content. Particularly with the "Gaia" skin, players have complained to the point that the game will be disabling it.
The Skin Will Be Gone By the Next Update
The "Gaia" skin is part of the Battle Pass in the earlier season and serves as a skin for the Nova operator. Problems started to emerge when players complained that the Groot-like appearance made it hard for other players to spot their enemies on certain maps.
As a result of the ongoing requests to fix the skin as it provides an unfair advantage in multiplayer mode, Sledgehammer Games has confirmed that they will be disabling the skin in the upcoming update for the game, as reported by Game Rant.
The Battle Pass Skin character Gaia is described as an ancient goddess of considerable [power, and "uses her earthen form to inspire ruin in her enemies." She also has glowing red eyes with the glow also visible within her body beneath the intertwining branches.
Whether Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 decides to temporarily remove the skin or not, it seems that there will always be players who are unhappy about the decision. Those who believe that the skin offers an advantage are glad to see it go, but players who paid for the Battle Pass as not so happy.
Changes were already made to the Gaia skin during "The Haunting" event for Modern Warfare 2, but players argued that the changes didn't do much as the skin was still hard to spot. Other players who approved of the skin said that it was merely a "skill issue" for those who complained.
Developers will need the time to finalize the appearance of the skin before it's enabled again, although it's unclear when that will be. The community's concern has some validity to it, especially since a tree-like skin would be better at camouflage compared to one in full tactical armor.
Modern Warfare 3 is Not Doing So Good
Complaints about an operator skin are the last thing that developers would want to worry about, especially since the latest game in the Call of Duty franchise has been met with bad reviews from both critics and players.
Sales have been down by 25% as it received the lowest-ever Metacritic score, according to Metro. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 topped the UK boxed charts in the first week, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a successful game.
On Steam alone, it has over 260,000 Mixed reviews, with the most recent reviews of over 16,500 players being mostly negative. Some of the reviews detailed that the campaign was way too short, while others said that they were immediately shadowbanned after being reported for being too good.
Plus, the game requires 200GB of storage, which many claim is way too big for such a short game. Activision has a lot of improvements to do in order to redeem the game. For now, they can start with redesigning the Gaia skin to resolve the issue quickly.
