Now is a great time to return to Cyberpunk 2077 to check out the new additions that CD Projekt Red included in the 2.1 update, but it comes as a bittersweet announcement since it will be the last major update that the studio will release.
CD Projekt Red Moves On to New Projects
As amazing as Cyberpunk 2077 turned out to be after the CD Projekt Red issued several patches and overhauls, the studio eventually needed to shift its focus to another project so they could release new titles. That time has finally come.
The studio's Community Director, Marcin Momot, posted on X that they have "one more patch for Cyberpunk 2077" up their sleeve, meaning that after all the bug fixes and gameplay changes, the dystopian game is in its final form, as reported by Game Rant.
As for the changes within the game, there are several that might encourage you to open the game and stroll through Night City again. For one, you no longer need a mod to ride the NCART train and appreciate the city in all its glory.
There are 19 metro stations all over the map, which V can now access through their NCART City Pass. While you do that, you can even listen to music through the game's radio stations or even when you're walking through the city.
The 2.1 update added a Radioport feature which will automatically switch to the vehicle's sound system once you get in. It also shuts off once you're in combat, and the appropriate quest music starts playing in the background.
When you already have a concluded love interest in the game, such as River, Judy, and Panam, you can now invite them to whichever apartment you have purchased. You can invite them anytime and as many times as you want.
Furthermore, racing will not be limited to "The Beast in Me" quest anymore. There will be race flag icons all over the map, which you can participate in. Winning in the race will earn you money as well as discounts for the Autofoxer website. To learn more about the new features and fixes, you can read about them on the website.
Project Orion
Even though the developers are officially leaving Cyberpunk 2077, you don't have to feel too bad about it, as it means that the studio can focus more on other matters like Project Orion and Project Polaris. You'll be happy to know that the former is a continuation of the Cyberpunk story.
CDPR already confirmed that they were making a sequel to the futuristic RPG back in early October 2022. The sequel will "take the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise further and continue harnessing the potential of this dark future universe."
The bad news is that we might not be seeing it soon. The studio is focusing on the next Witcher game in the franchise, which is mentioned as Project Polaris. The development for the upcoming title has already begun, according to Forbes.
Since development has not started yet for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, there's not much to know about the story or the characters. We will have to wait and see if the next title will continue V's mission to find a cure that will save their life.
