If you are still playing Dark Souls II on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, you might want to say goodbye to its multiplayer and PvP mode before it is too late.
FromSoftware just announced that it will permanently turn off the game's servers on PS3 and Xbox 360 starting next year.
When Will the Dark Souls 2 Servers Shut Down?
The official X (formerly Twitter) Dark Souls account confirmed the news, stating that the online servers will close on March 31, 5:00 PDT.
Online servers for the PC, PS4, Xbox One will remain open. Offline game mode can also still be played on the older gaming consoles.
Dark Souls II first launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in March 2014, nearly a decade from now.
The second title to the franchise joins the original Dark Souls (Prepare to Die Edition) to have its online servers permanently down.
It remains uncertain if the Dark Souls II will get a Remaster as it did with the first Dark Souls in 2018.
Dark Souls 2 Online Game Mode: Features and Benefits
Despite its age, the Dark Souls franchise continues to attract both old and new players to its challenging yet fun gameplay.
One of its main tractions, aside from the main story, is its multiplayer function.
Players can leave messages to guide, confuse, and deceive other players in their journey.
Accessing these in-laid messages can also summon another player into your world to help you defeat difficult bosses. Many players gained recognition by solely helping others get through the game.
Other times, players can also invade other worlds and try to kill that world's Bearer of the Curse (player character) for loots and Souls to level skills and equipment. Invasions can be done by groups or solo.
If you have the DLC, you also gain access to its PvP arena to test out who is the better Souls gamer.
Many even consider the PvP system in Dark Souls II as the best in the franchise, even beating out other modern FromSoftware titles like Dark Souls III and Elden Ring.
